Heavy snow shuts 10 Montana communities as blizzard swamps the East
Heavy snow driven by high winds pummeled eastern Montana causing widespread outages. Ten communities lost telephone service and several more lost power while at least three schools closed. Fifteen inch accumulations and six foot drifts hindered travel as the storm spread into Idaho Nevada Wyoming and North Dakota. Devils Lake wind speeds reached 58 to 64 mph for four hours as the weather system settled over the region.
