Indians to observe four days of mourning
Indians at Wounded Knee halted talks with the federal government to observe four days of mourning for Frank Clearwater a 47 year old Apache from Cherokee North Carolina who died in a Rapid City hospital of a head wound from the April 17 gun battle. The death marked the first fatality from the exchange and Clearwater’s widow Morning Star planned to bury him at Wounded Knee but Pine Ridge officials stated this would not be allowed since he was not Sioux.

Tourism set for record year in California rooms tax rise
California tourism is headed for a record year in 1973 due to dollar devaluation and higher travel costs, says the state Chamber of Commerce. A report by State Controller Houston Flournoy shows bed tax collections up nearly 19 percent since 1969-70, with 1971-72 room expenditures at $28.9 million versus $20.8 million in 1969-70.
