Ozone Levels Exceed Standards in Santa Ynez Valley

Representation drives two county employee bargaining units

The Santa Barbara County Employees Assn filed petitions to represent a department heads and assistant heads unit and a division chiefs unit, with 128 employees possibly covered. Petitions were filed with County Personnel Director Wilbur Wagstaff as top management remains unrepresented.

Fraud charges filed against Home Food Services in LA area

District Attorney David Milner announced a criminal fraud complaint against Home Food Services of Los Angeles for false advertising and misrepresentations about a bulk food plan in Lompoc. An investigation found a 58 pound short order from a 526 pound guarantee and price gaps compared with local stores. Milner noted ongoing probe and urged consumer checks.

Lompoc Shelter Seeks White Poodle. Local Campaign Trail Outline

The Lompoc Animal Shelter seeks a white poodle that bit an adult on the 100 block of West Ocean Avenue last weekend. Call 6 2913 with information. Charles F. Monte Catterlin plans a Lompoc area campaign event schedule including a coffee, luncheon, home visit, and a final dinner with the Lompoc Valley Republican Women’s Club. Riad Fox, 35, was ordered to 48 hours in jail, a $750 fine, and one year license suspension for drunk driving. Hinkel, 44, received 30 days jail, $1,000 fine, two-year probation, and license status continued. Becerra Rodrigues, 44, jailed 48 hours, $750 fine, one-year license suspension, two-year probation for March 15 arrest. A Vandenberg Village couple, Mary Lou and Larry McKinney, 21 and 22, were jailed under $10,000 bail each on charges of writing over 70 insufficient funds checks and conspiracy. They face arraignment in Lompoc Justice Court.

Hancock College A Cappella Choir benefits in Lompoc concert

The Lompoc Music Association hosts two benefit performances of the Hancock College A Cappella Choir at 7 and 8:30 p.m. in the Lompoc Theatre to fund a 21 day goodwill tour to Romania departing May 14. Tickets are $2 and proceeds help reach a near 25 000 goal.

Burglary Prevention Seminars Planned in Lompoc

A series of burglary prevention seminars led by Police Chief James D. Smith will run from 7:30 p.m. at venues including Lompoc Public Library and the Police Department. The program features a film Invitation to Burglary, locks display, and property marking, with sessions May 1 7 and a final May 9. Officer Dennis Grindell coordinates the outreach funded by a state criminal justice grant.
