ACCIDENT reports say Jer Holt Showser 19 of 916 E Cherry Ave suffered minor injuries when his small foreign car rolled over on Johns Manville turnoff road near Miguelito Canyon Road. He was treated at Lompoc Hospital and released. incident occurred on private property.

Sirhan Quarters Not Yet Decided

Sacramento lawmakers delay a bill to allow special prison quarters for Sirhan B. Sirhan until a jury fixes his penalty for Kennedy slaying. If sentenced to death the bill would place Sirhan at Vacaville Prison instead of San Quentin. The Assembly Criminal Procedure Committee postpones its hearing until the jury is out.

Engineers present flood plan report to board

Berryhill, LaCoste face runoff for California Assembly seat

In Modesto California Republican Clare Berryhill and Democrat Ernest LaCoste qualified for a runoff on May 20 after top vote totals in a special election. Berryhill, 43, surged from behind to win 22 percent with 10,696 votes, largely from rural agricultural areas. LaCoste, 44, won 41 percent with 19,830 ballots but failed to secure a majority. Modesto City Councilman Ray Simon and former Mayor Peter W. Johansen finished second and third, splitting the Modesto vote and letting the two main contenders advance.

Weingand Targets Oil Drilling in Santa Barbara Channel

Alvin C. Weingand former state senator spoke to Lompoc Democrats urging a strong citizen coalition to halt oil drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel. He outlined four actions including a petition with over 80 000 signatures and support for bills by Teague and Cranston to ban drilling.
