Australian Aborigines Music Studied By Moyle At AAUW Talk

Alice Moyle of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies lectured at a Santa Maria AAUW meeting on ethnomusicology. She described colonial preservation efforts, noted Aboriginal nonliterate culture, and demonstrated film and tape work comparing Groote Eylandt and mainland tribes. Moyle, an AAUW fellow, plans further study in Indiana and the East and will speak at the Fresno convention.

AAUW Names Fellowships for Local Branch Members

The Lompoc Vandenberg Branch honors Mary Ann Goodwin and Ruth Adams with a $500 Society gift to the AAUW Fellowships Program. The endowment now exceeds $5 million funding about 100 fellowships annually. Local funds come from UNICEF card sales and the Children’s Theater project.

Life in Communist China and Alpha Club programs noted

Alice Chun Hintzen, former Lompoc teacher, born and raised in Communist China, will speak Wednesday to Alpha Club about growing up there. A luncheon precedes the Alpha Clubhouse program. The Alpha Club 49th annual Flower Show invites residents to compete June 26–27 at Veterans Memorial Hall with prize entries and demonstrations.
