Lompoc Teen to Present Nixon Gifts at White House

Nancy Donovan 18 of Lompoc will meet President Nixon and Mrs Nixon in the Oval Room to present 4-H gifts on behalf of 4 million members. She will give a carved wooden pin from the oak tree behind Joyce Kilmer Trees and cuff links to the President.

Four Santa Marians Missing in Palm Springs to Santa Maria Flight

A light plane carrying four people including pilot David Argov and passengers Mr and Mrs Barry Lippmann and Mrs Melman from Palm Springs to Santa Maria was missing. Civil Air Patrol had halted the search at night. ten aircraft were patrolling today as low clouds hampered progress in the Banning Pass.

Burke Re-elected to Allan Hancock College Board

Edmund Burke, eight-year trustee, retained a districtwide win with 4 048 votes while Huseman led in Lompoc with 1 732. DeMarrais received 3 827 districtwide and Burke 879 in Lompoc. Burke will serve Area 4 with terms starting after July 1 alongside Baun Beattie and Nagle as other winners.

Election results and turnout in local school board race

Three seats on the school board were decided with Virgil J. Casey 1,266 votes Bruce Holloway 1,100 Lawrence Schriver 1,052 David Lemos 811 Florence Burch 403 Glenn Christmas 344 John Wolff 201 and Braun leading in all ten precincts. Absentee results show small margins with Burch Casey Lemos Schriver and Wolff receiving scattered votes. Weather notes: frost tonight then warming Thursday with highs in the 60s and small craft winds.

Dope Doesn't Pay Doomed Shootings Near Santa Maria

A California CHP officer was shot by a young man who then killed himself after leaving a note denouncing dope and urging care for people. Officer Loren Scruggs, 35, was wounded in the temple and later underwent brain surgery. The suspect, Mark Steward, 22, was found dead from self inflicted gunshot in a nearby field. Steward left a 16 line note before his death.
