Board asks judges to reconsider opposition to Grand Jury reform
The County Board of Supervisors urges Superior Court judges to reconsider their earlier negative stance on reforming Grand Jury selection. Gail Towbes presented a proposal backed by Judge Bruce Dodds and District Attorney Stanley Roden, aiming to screen applicants for a more representative, capable Grand Jury before the current term ends June 30.

Water Advisory Committee to review pricing proposals
The County Water Advisory Committee gained approval from the Board of Supervisors to meet Wednesday to review a subcommittee recommendation on pricing State Project water. Led by Gen. Thomas Van Natta, the panel proposed a railroad-ticket style rate based on distance from the Santa Maria terminal, a plan opposed by former Lompoc Mayor Art Scott who argues higher charges would hit Lompoc after their tax support for local projects. The five subcommittee members will brief the full committee ahead of a County Supervisors meeting to decide on further action.

County Board tightens limits on Buellton auto lot plan
The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors upheld a planning commission recommendation to allow Albert Silverman to operate a mixed sale site on State Highway 246, selling used cars and new and used recreational vehicles only. Supervisors Harrell Fletcher and David Yager dissented, arguing it is not a planning matter, as the property was rezoned to a planned commercial overlay on a five acre base.
