Brown accepts resignation of third ag board member
SACRAMENTO, UPI Gov Edmund G Brown Jr accepted the surprise resignation of a third member of the nearly defunct state Agricultural Labor Relations Board. Joseph Grodin will quit effective April 30, citing economic hardship from irregular pay. The board now lacks a quorum to transact business, leaving only Bishop Roger Mahoney and Richard Johnson Jr. The agency closed Feb 6 for lack of funds as Brown's emergency appropriation bill stalled. Grodin plans to resume teaching at Hastings College in August after years with a San Francisco law firm. Other resignations followed, including Walter Kuntz and Leroy Chatfield, with Joseph C. Ortega under arrest on a morals charge. Brown thanked Grodin for his work as Chavez's UFW pushes an initiative to restore the board's access rule and farm labor reforms.
