Simi Hiker Rescued After Three Day Wilds Search
Edward Peter Waters a 19 year old hiker from Simi was airlifted to safety after a three day search in Los Padres National Forest. He was found in Black Canyon near San Rafael and McKinley Peak in fair condition suffering exposure and hunger. Waters had been overdue from a two day hike from Cachuma Saddle Ranger Station. Rescue crews from Lompoc Santa Maria Santa Barbara and Sierra Madre aided the recovery with Air Force helicopters and other units en route. Weather hampered early efforts with mud snow fog and subfreezing temps tested responders.
