Regents Take Back Faculty Appointment Power
The University of California regents vote 14 to 10 to require chancellors to submit faculty appointment and promotion recommendations to the regents monthly. A veto window of ten days exists, potentially delaying hiring up to 70 days in August and December gaps. Governor Reagan supports the move, while President Hitch and the chancellors oppose it, calling it a vote of no confidence.
