Dr. Alvin Marks, 40, of Sacramento, left Honolulu at 11 36 pm on the final leg toward a solo around the world flight in a Cessna T2. He expects to land in Sacramento about 3 30 pm today, aiming to beat the 1967 lighter than 3380 pounds record set by Sheila Scott. Marks averages 70 mph, higher than Scott’s 36 mph pace. He traveled via Wake Island and rested in Honolulu with his daughter Susan Chapman.

Snow and Storms Hit Central Rockies and Southeast
Four inches of snow fell at Evergreen Colorado as a wintry storm blanketed the Central Rocky Mountains. Showers and thundershowers stretched from Michigan and New York to Florida while lighter rain touched the lower Midwest. A brief tornado touched down south of Coldwater Michigan, lifting a bathroom roof and rolling a trailer. A twister north of Dighton Kansas caused no injuries. Travelers warnings continued due to heavy mountain snow in northern Colorado and western Wyoming. Stockmen’s warnings remained in effect into western Nebraska and northwestern Kansas. An inch and a hail event occurred at Hebron Nebraska and Kansas winds produced small hail. Rain totals rose to 1.73 inches at Augusta Georgia and over an inch at Columbia North Carolina. Elsewhere clear skies and mild conditions prevailed with early morning temperatures from 30 at Laramie Wyoming to 76 at Miami Florida.
