Government to weigh vision for Wounded Knee standoff

Government negotiators discussed an Indian disarmament plan inspired by a Sioux religious leader to end the AIM siege at Wounded Knee in Pine Ridge. Assistant Attorney General Stanley Pottinger said the plan raises questions about weapon security and warrants. No further talks were set for today as the 43 day confrontation continued.

Snowfall halts search in Swiss air disaster

Snow blanketed Hochwald as rescuers paused the hunt for nine missing after the Invicta Airlines crash that killed 96 and left 39 survivors. The Bristol owned charter carried 144 aboard, including English shoppers, and crashed in a blizzard near a tree covered hillside at 1750 feet.

Reagan Defends State Fund Use for Tax Plan Promotion

Governor Ronald Reagan defended using state funds and staff to promote his tax limitation plan. He criticized Sen. Howard Way for seeking jet-use restrictions and passenger disclosures, saying the actions follow customary executive practices. The three months total included 52,926 for jet travel and 2,250 for a Sinatra dinner.
