Israeli raid in Beirut kills Arab guerrilla leaders

UPI reports Israeli commandos landed at Beirut beaches in civilian cars to strike eight targets in Beirut and Sidon. three top Arab guerrilla leaders were killed in two hour operation while Lebanese police clashed with Israeli forces. casualties included four Lebanese killed or injured and two Israeli soldiers dead.

Plans finalized for Southwick welcome in Lompoc

A large welcome ceremony is set in Lompoc for former POW Navy Cmdr Everett Southwick with a 11 a.m. airport arrival, a motorcade to the civic auditorium, a noon ceremony, and a sold-out luncheon at the Lion's Inn. Mrs Reagan will introduce Southwick. Mayor Cotsenmeyer will award honorary citizen titles.

Snowstorm stalls national meat boycott evaluation

The worst spring snowstorm in the Midwest hindered assessing the Nixon administration and housewives meat boycott effects. Absentee Ballot Demand Swells Ahead of Easter Election

County officials report a surge in absentee ballot requests for next week's election in Lompoc Unified School District. Deputy County Clerk Ann Sweet says over 400 ballots issued as many voters are on vacation. County Board weighs beefing up planning staff and higher fees

The Board of Supervisors considered expanding the County Planning Department rather than pausing construction activity. A proposed fee hike of more than 30 percent for subdividers and developers was sent to the auditor for appraisal. Planning Director Britt Johnson said the audit will evaluate the new fee schedule as Victor Conley urged fees to cover staffing costs. Supervisor Frost noted past fee shortfalls and growth concerns. An April 23 report from the county administrator will decide on adding staff to handle the long range plan and zoning work.
