New leaders take over in pin battles

In the eighth day of the 50th WIBC championship in San Diego five new leaders emerged. Jane Hurlburt and Jane Jackson topped open division doubles with 1175, Hurlburt posting 621 and Jackson 554. Jackson later led open division singles with 637. The Five-Star Trawlers led division one team with 2465 pinfall.

Robertson earns 10th NBA All Star honor

Oscar Robertson was named to the NBA All Star team for the 10th time after the 1968-69 season. Joining him were Wes Unseld Earl Monroe Billy Cunningham Elgin Baylor, pushing Wilt Chamberlain Bill Russell and Jerry Lucas off the first team for the first time in their careers. The Dos Pueblos Chargers defeated Lompoc 60 34 as Lompoc kept two wins in league and eight losses. Braves teammates Hewes McVicar and Czerwinski won events, with Czerwinski taking diving at 92.1 points and a 3:40.5 400 yard relay by MacKenzie Green McVicar Hewes.

Hillmen swim past Righetti in league meet showdown

Cabrillo defeated Righetti 51 to 43 at the Cabrillo pool as Don Wyckoff led a 100 yard breaststroke sweep with 1 10.1 seconds, edging Walter Heidmans and Eddie Galvan. The Hilltoppers also set a new Cabrillo 400 yard freestyle relay school record of 1 49.0.
