Tax officials report 201 Californians paid no state income tax

California data show 2 017 residents with incomes above 20 000 paid no state income tax in 1971. Among them 21 earned 100 000 to 1 million and 84 50 000 to 100 000, with 1 912 in the 20 000 to 50 000 range. Mervyn M Dymally notes many untaxed remain. The 2 1/2 percent minimum tax helped 143 high bracket taxpayers.

Mother sees son in Viet Cong camp but he vanishes

CHICAGO UP I A) A Detroit mother Phyllis Allard says she found her son Spec 4 Richard Allard missing in action after a Southeast Asia trip. She claims to have seen him and 25 other captives in a Viet Cong prison camp near the Vietnam Cambodia border. She provided details of meetings with North Vietnamese officials and Viet Cong guards, but U.S. authorities maintain her son is inconclusively classified as missing in action.
