Alpha members shine at Tierra Adorado Fine Arts Festival

Mrs Orville Erdmann won sweepstakes and first for Ecology Trash to Treasures at the Tierra Adorado District festival in California Federated Women's Clubs. She also earned honorable mention for papier mache. Mary Frances Burke took first and second in needlework embroidery, Esther Baker's decoupage was second, Helen Larsson earned third in sewn novelty items. Mercedes Shirley won first in creative writing for a short story and third for a poem. Ann Comfort earned honorable mention for a poem. Helen Larsson's still life took second and Juanita Flores earned honorable mention for an oil painting.

Local couples take Amtrak trip to three cities

Three local couples the Ken Calverts Ron Linnemans and Malcolm Hearnes return from an Amtrak tour starting in San Luis Obispo. They rode to Oakland then bused to San Francisco visiting Fisherman's Wharf and riding a cable car. They continued over Donner Pass and finished in Reno visiting Harrah's antique auto collection.
