Welfare offices extend hours to ease paper backlog
Lompoc Santa Barbara and Santa Maria welfare offices will shift to a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekday schedule starting April 15 to handle rising caseloads after a prior 8 a.m. start. Welfare Director Arthur Nelson cited 225 to 275 daily visitors at Santa Barbara and a swollen workload from expanded food stamp and aid programs, with a 90 day review planned to assess impact.
