UPI reports Maj. Walter D. Kinard said the Calley jury relived the My Lai massacre during deliberations and found no other recourse but conviction for murder. The six combat officers handed Calley a life sentence after about 80 hours of deliberation. The defense sought a deferment from confinement but faces uncertain approval.

Nebraska executive named Lompoc EDA chief

Two additional tremors shook the San Fernando Valley early today, registering 2.7 and 3.7 on the Richter scale per Caltech estimates. Following Wednesday’s 3.0 and larger quake that damaged hundreds of buildings, police saw few calls and limited injuries as residents felt the aftershocks.
