Steel Pipe Contact Causes Fire at Hocking Mall Site

John Pearce, a Baskerville, Virginia man, was listed in good condition at Hocking Valley Community Hospital after a 35 to 40 foot steel pipe being lifted by a boom truck touched a high tension power line at the Hocking Mall construction site. The truck burned, power was shut off by Ohio Power Co., and Pearce was taken to hospital by EMS. The Adamson Construction Co. truck was a total loss. Firefighters remained on scene until 3:19 p.m. Monday. The AP report also notes stock market steps with minor changes amid end of quarter activity.

Court Rules Nixon Not Entitled to White House Tapes

West Logan Water Rates Hiked by $1 Monthly

West Logan water owners Mr and Mrs George Bardain announced a $1 monthly rate increase to bills mailed this week covering July to January. They warned that without higher income the water business could close and noted frozen lines may remain unrepaired this winter. The system serves 95 customers with rates based on family size.

Rainfall Edges Half Inch in Hocking Valley Weather Update

Heavy rain measured at half an inch fell late Monday in the Hocking Valley, with a 70 percent chance of more rain tonight and 60 percent for Wednesday. Highs near 80 and lows in the 70s are forecast. 11 am temperature was 75 under cloudy skies, following an overnight low of 67 and Monday’s high of 86 before the rain began.

Ohio Minimum Wage To Increase This Year

Ohio's minimum wage rises 10 cents an hour on July 1 and gains another 20 cents by January, with covered workers at least 2.10 dollars next month. Small retailers, manufacturers, motels and restaurants fall under the law. tips under 20 dollars a month are exempt.
