Mrs. Homer G. Hansel is treated at Cherrington hospital after a fall at her home Wednesday. She remains on crutches from an automobile crash near Columbus last February that caused a fractured leg. She had been confined in a Columbus hospital until a few weeks ago.
Cincinnati's Charles Sawyer opens Cleveland speaking tour and accuses Gov. Martin L. Davey of failing to lead relief efforts in Cleveland and other cities. He says Davey shouts at legislators or tours the state with campaign sirens, while others address the problem.
Gov. Martin L. Davey signals support for John F. Nolan of Steubenville to succeed Francis W. Poulson as chairman of the State Democratic Committee if he wins a third-term nomination. Poulson plans to retire after the August 9 primary amid a Senate inquiry into state department contracts involving Shaw Transport of which Nolan was a stockholder.
Columbus June 23 AP The House Finance Committee backed a Senate passed welfare department building program bill creating a three member building authority with power to issue bonds totaling 7500000. Federal funds expected. bonds retired from rents paid by state agencies. Authority needed as state cannot issue bonds of that size. The panel trimmed provisions officials said were too broad. New hospitals likely. reformatories and renovations planned. earlier law approved 2 million in new constructions at mental hospitals. Local finance measures to broaden federal project participation also passed Senate. amendment prohibits funds for publicly owned utilities competing with private firms.
