Washington June 22 AP The Public Works Administration today distributed close to 200 million dollars to cities and states as initial grants under the spending lending program. President Roosevelt signed a 3.75 billion dollar bill yesterday authorizing the plan and PWA actions.
Bascom Stamper 28 and Bertha Smith Stamper 22 wed three days ago in Marysville Kentucky. Stamper was reunited after accusing his bride’s mother Eunice Smith and her brother Willis Smith of forcing his car into a ditch and abducting the bride, then driving her to Wilmington and Portsmouth.
Patrolman W T Lally and John McCarthy responded to an emergency call in Youngstown Ohio to help Mrs Josephine Gerch 25 of Campbell as she delivered a baby on the front lawn at a north side home.

Leon G. Turrou, the New York G man who broke the espionage story, resigns citing health after 16 hour days over three months. The federal grand jury indicted 18 persons in the case, adding a fresh climax to the drama.
H H Sands of 199 North Street was named Commander of Logan Commandery No 78 Knights Templar after the annual officer election at the Masonic Temple. He succeeds Clarence Allen. Other officers named include Curtis Cole Generalissimo Denzil Weltner Captain General Clarence Blosser Senior Warden Desmond Braddock Junior Warden Rolland Bright Prelate J W Woodard Treasurer Washington Bowers Standard Bearer Charles Lyke Sword Bearer H D Arnold Warder H O Tom Sentinel Clarence Allen Trustee Installation followed with Rolland Bright and Melrose Harbaugh officers in charge.
Gus Kallas proprietor of Logan's Coney Island Restaurant applied for passports for Greece this summer with his wife Maria and children Emanuel and Stella. They plan to sail July 30 aboard the steamship Vulcania for about six months, marking his first return to Greece since emigrating 27 years ago. Maria was born in Ohio.
Honeymooning today were Mr and Mrs Clifton Hoffman after an 8 year old boy Charles E Jaynts Jr ordained him and joined the clergy a year ago. The ceremony was performed in Cleveland and announced by AP.
In Columbus on June 22 AP reports lawmakers return to the Capitol as leaders seek to end a stalemate over Ohio relief. Speaker Frank R Uible plans a Democrat caucus while the Senate resists compromises on the excise tax extender and relief administration measures until the House acts on two Senate bills enabling municipalities to borrow liquor permit revenues and allow transfer of surplus relief funds between subdivisions.
The new Logan pool will open on Wednesday June 29, two days earlier than planned. Superintendent George Carr confirms the pool is full and only minor bath house work remains. Adult season tickets are on sale from Bill Sauer Jr others at the pool.

In Valencia Spain two British freighters were sunk by a Skyraider in port. The Sunion a 3054 ton ship formerly Greek registry burned after incendiary bombs for six hours and sank. The Thorpeness a 4789 ton vessel carrying 17000 tons of grain was torpedoed and went down. All 32 crew aboard Sunion were rescued including the German observer for the non intervention committee.
John T. Sanderson, son of Mr and Mrs J D Sanderson of South Walnut street, arrived in Logan yesterday afternoon for a brief visit with his parents. He will return tonight to Atlantic City where he has been employed for the past few years as a member of an orchestra.
The Hocking Valley Country Club announces the formal opening of its new club house on Thursday with members and guests present. Contests include a driving event from the third tee, a hole-in-one on number nine, prizes for most threes fours sevens and most birdies, plus awards for low and high net scores. Entry requires score cards returned at the club house, and a fee covers contests and refreshments. The facility features a locker room showers kitchen and lounge with a porch facing number three green.
Funeral services are being arranged for Amos Brown 26 Union Furnace who died last night at Grant Hospital Columbus following an appendectomy performed three weeks earlier. He leaves Betty his widow two small children his parents Mr and Mrs Elisha Brown Marion Township and several brothers and sisters. Brown moved to Union Furnace six years ago from Natco Haydenville where he was employed. Woodard Funeral Service is handling arrangements.
Charles Sawyer told a Cleveland Heights meeting that only two candidates remain in the Democratic primary and that John L. Lewis is not the other. He denied meeting Lewis or arranging CIO support with Gov. Davey charging Lewis as Sawyer's ally. Sawyer defended his leadership and criticized Davey over poor relief and campaign travel, urging voters to choose between himself and Davey for November.
Minor injuries were suffered last night by William Radcliff, Mrs. Mary Connor and two children of Athens County when their car collided with a truck on U S Route 33 near the top of Jurgensmier Hill. Driver of the truck was Samuel Blum of Columbus.
Albany June 22 AP Herbert H Lehman as Democratic governor announced a bid for the vacated U S Senate seat triggering a scramble for the governorship. State Attorney General John J Bennett Jr joined the race as a Democratic aspirant. Republican and Democratic leaders weighed Lehman’s plans and possible opposition.
United States news desk reports heavyweights Joe Louis and Max Schmeling facing a 15 round title bout at Yankee Stadium amid overcast skies and muggy heat. Forecasts hinted possible showers but no postponement was declared, with promoter Mike Jacobs delaying a final decision until late afternoon if rain arrives.
Revival services at Carbon Hill continue all week until Saturday with Rev. D G Plymire preaching. Music provided by Mr and Mrs Fagan who sing at 730 each evening.
Barbara Hutton's mansion in June 22 AP report is guarded as kidnap threats target her baby son. Hutton Reventlow fled the United States claiming fear of American kidnapers and the countess says she has taken certain precautions.
London reports a threat to Count Lance Haugwitz-Reventlow as Scotland Yard tightens security at ports and airfields and guards his Woolworth heiress mother. Officials deny details, while past threats to the countess are recalled and a man jailed for an extortion plot.
A blaze on Main Street Carbon Hill in Ward Township destroyed a general store owned by Bert Furry and two adjacent homes, totaling several thousand dollars in losses with partial insurance coverage. State highway and CCC workers aided bucket brigades, preventing spread to other houses as firefighters battled the flames.
Murray City residents recount the blaze that damaged the Dawley home while Clifford Don son and Mayor John Ayers coordinated the response. Local highway workers Wayne Shaw Raymond Goss Ralph Goss Vernon Wright and Sam C Smith helped fight the blaze and a new electric refrigerator bought yesterday was saved along with most of the Dawleys belongings and all of Furry's possessions.
The Logan Kiwanis Club outlined its annual fall festival concert series at the White House meeting. Collins Entertainment Company will present autumn musicales to benefit underprivileged children. New members Arthur Gasser and Dwight Dunkle were introduced, with initiation services set in two weeks for Gasser Dunkle and Harry Reichley.
Georgia Poling, operator near Madison Mills, fired several shots at a gang trying to take slot machines. Five youths were arrested en route to Columbus by State Highway Patrol. one wounded, reasons for the alleged link to the Madison Mills shooting unclear.
