Groundbreaking Plans Set for Senior Citizens Center

Carter energy plan takes heavy blows in House vote

Knife Assault Reported in Franklin City

Police plan to file charges today against a suspect in a knife assault on Mrs. Florence Hooper of 683 East Hunter Street. Hooper said a young man about 20 entered her home asking for work, then demanded $20 with a kitchen knife and pushed her, injuring her before fleeing. The description: about 5 feet 2 inches, 110 pounds, blond hair, light beard, beige corduroy pants and plaid shirt.

The Hocking Valley is headed for near 80 degree highs and 50s overnight lows with a 10 percent chance of rain. At 11 a.m. today temperatures were 68 under blue sunny skies, up from Thursday's 66 while overnight temperatures dipped to 35.

Official Confirms Fire Cause at Beverly Hills Club

Warren Southworth the Kentucky state fire marshal said the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire that killed 161 on May 28 started in a crawl space in the Zebra Room. He said the ignition was likely electrical and fed by ceiling tiles wood supports and other combustibles and that the fire burned for a long time before discovery.

Change of Venue Sought in Hocking Marijuana Case

William Miller, 36, of Punta Gorda Florida, faces marijuana trafficking charges in Hocking County Common Pleas Court with attorney Thomas F. Vivian seeking a venue change and suppression of evidence. A hearing on the motions is set for Monday at 9 a.m. and the defense argues local press coverage taints the jury. The suppression motion targets evidence from the February 24 searches by the Hocking Sheriff and Logan Police, alleging constitutional flaws in their searches.
