General Electric plant near Logan adds a second shift starting today from 4 PM to 11 30 PM as carpenters ironworkers and laborers join the workforce. About 90 work the day shift from 7 30 AM to 4 PM while nearly 100 job applicants, including many graduates, seek positions.
The Veterans Administration will seek bids in June July and August for 15 new hospitals. Administrator Carl R. Gray Jr. outlined the plans to the House Appropriations Committee. testimony was made public today. June projects include Brecksville Ohio and other sites.
The Senate finance committee voted 8 to 5 to extend the foreign trade agreements act for one year with a milder revision than the House plan. The Millikin Vandenberg amendment would require the President to justify to Congress within 30 days when disregarding tariff commission guidance.
The General Electric Co. offered an eight percent wage increase to about 125,000 workers nationwide. The raise would translate to roughly nine to 15 cents an hour and was presented to CIO union negotiators as talks began in March. The union recessed to consider the offer and asked about the effective date.
The French cabinet approved the six power agreement on Western Germany and plans to submit it to the national assembly on Friday. Foreign Minister Georges Bidault led the push for formal acceptance of the accord reached by the United States Britain France Belgium the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Five passengers from a Pennsylvania sleeping car were injured in a derailment at Columbus Union Station when two cars uncoupled and collided with the engine of the Metropolitan Limited. Fire crews freed victims, with E. D. Johnson and Charles W. Donker the most seriously hurt.

Twenty five Owingsville Kentucky high school students sustained minor injuries when their chartered bus crashed into an embankment east of Cambridge. The incident occurred yesterday as the group traveled to an event, with no serious injuries reported.

Mrs. Vesper Vollmer 40 wife of Gerald Vollmer died at 5 35 P M yesterday at her Haydenville home after a long illness. She was a native of Hocking County and lived in Haydenville most of her life. Survivors include husband two sons Donald and Raymond her mother Mrs Herbert Campbell five brothers Charles Ronald Foster Paul Campbell James Campbell and Canton and two sisters Mrs Nellie Huddy and Mrs Flora Taylor. The body may be viewed Tuesday afternoon at the residence. Services will be held 2 P M Thursday at Maydenville Methodist Church with Rev G E Fisher and Rev Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Wolfe Cemetery near Haydenville.

About 45 000 Columbus citizens cast ballots on a one half of one per cent income tax in a referendum. The levy, in effect since November 28 1947, targets earned income and net profits to fund the city public service division and old debts.
Randy Keyes six, son of Mr and Mrs Russell Keyes formerly of Logan now near Balboa Panama, wandered into jungle near his home with older companions. After more than five hours he reached a canal bank near nightfall. A fisherman found him and returned him to his panicked parents as villagers searched the area.
The Senate approved an amendment allowing 25 000 aliens to enlist in the Army for a two year draft period. Enlistees would be eligible for citizenship after five years, but the plan denies forming a foreign legion and would spread volunteers through the force. Some oppose linking immigration to selective service while others back the move as a response to anti communist Poles and others in Europe. The vote followed debate over civil rights amendments including a poll tax prohibition for federal servicemen. The chamber faced further amendments as a night session continued.
