Hocking Business and Industry Extend Christmas Greetings

Fred Weaver Will Remain Sanitarian Through 1970

Fred Weaver will continue as sanitarian for the Logan Hocking County health department through March 1970. He will work two days weekly in Hocking County and will be the county's only sanitarian after David Mingus resigns at the start of the year. The board also appointed Mrs Josephine Mathias as clerk statistician to replace retiring Lorena Larimer. Dr Owen F Yaw as acting health commissioner and nurses Betty Howard and Ada Rheinscheld were rehired for the coming year.

Winners of Logan Jaycees third annual Home Christmas Decorating Contest announced. Edwin C Johnston family won first prize a $50 Logan Home Furnishings gift certificate and a plaque from Logan General Electric. Second went to Harold Heinleins for an electric can opener donated by Ohio Power Co. Third received a Brandt's Restaurant dinner for two.

Santa Sends Deer To Check Logan Landing Conditions

A deer was sighted in downtown Logan last night likely examining landing conditions for Santa's Christmas Eve trip. Sheriff Paul Hartman reported the animal passed between the county jail and courthouse, paused before the Keynes residence, and returned toward the North Pole after being fed corn by the Keynes family.

Congress Passes Tax Bill Clears Barriers to Adjournment

Washington AP reports Congress cleared final barriers to adjournment after passage of the large tax reform bill. The Senate approved the measure 71-6 and the House 381-2, despite civil rights debates over Philadelphia plan provisions, with Nixon expected to sign into law. Ohio senators Saxbe and Young split on the vote.

Hocking Receives State Approval for Six Projects

Hocking Engineer George Mara announced six projects of a countywide program using State Issue I funds have been approved for programming. The Logan traffic lights project is tentatively approved by the state highway department.

Hunting accident claims life of Buchtel man

William L. Day 23 of Buchtel died after a deer hunting accident in Greendale. He was treated at Mount St Mary and University Hospital Columbus after surgery. Day, a Nelsonville-York graduate and worker for Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric, is survived by his wife Carolyn, a son, siblings, and several half siblings. Funeral services were set for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Nelsonville with burial in Greenlawn Memory Garden.

Man Convicted in 1964 Ambush Slaying in Ohio

Ironton, Ohio AP report says 44 year old Donald D. Wilson of Ironton was found guilty of first degree murder by Lawrence County Common Pleas Court for the 1964 ambush killing of his brother Cyril.
