One of six rural paintings Don Phillips is creating for the McArthur theater will be shown Friday and Saturday at Phillips Studio in Ambrose Hotel Building. The display includes four large panels in the auditorium showing an Indian scene a pioneer wagon days view a lake scene at Zaleski State Forest and a sawmill and oil wells scene. The foyer features two panels depicting a farming scene and a coal mining scene.

Hay spill on North Walnut Street after truck rack failure
A West Virginia truck carrying several tons of baled hay lost more than half its load when a rack slipped at the East Hunter North Walnut intersection Wednesday night. Workers reloaded the baled hay on Thursday morning.

Coal industry report predicts shift to underground loading
A WPA study based on a 436 page nationwide coal survey foresees as much as half of soft coal loaded underground by machine within ten years. Bus crash injures two as spring break drives students into utility pole
A Ward Township School bus broke a front spring on U S Route 33 near Logan, sending it into a telephone pole. Two 16 year olds Betty Mays and Doresta Coe were treated for injuries while 28 others were shaken. Driver Harold Wiseman and 28 students were en route to Logan High School for choir rehearsal when the crash occurred. Sheriff investigators examined the damaged front of the bus.
