Gore Sailor Held For Manslaughter
Gore sailor Junior K. Foss on leave from a Rhode Island naval base pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and was held to the grand jury under a 1500 dollar bond. He allegedly drove the car that struck and killed George H. Schmidt near the General Electric plant in Virgennes Vermont. Schmidt was a 54 year old construction foreman for International Chimney Corp of Buffalo New York. Seven other cars were damaged in the crash.

Young man pleads guilty to threat against President Truman
Dennis E. Porter, 20, pleaded guilty to threatening the life of President Truman and received a three year prison sentence. Military rites will be by Laurelville American Legion and Hocking County VFW at South Perry Methodist Church. Burial in Mt Olive Cemetery. He enlisted Sept 13 1940 at Ft. Hayes Columbus and was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. Repatriated body will lie at Defenbaugh Funeral Service then home of his parents before calling hours.
