Gore sailor charged with manslaughter in fatal hit and run
Junior Kin kade Foss, 19, of Gore, was arraigned on a manslaughter charge after a hit and run killed George H. Schmidt, 54, of Vergennes, near the General Electric plant in Logan. Foss pleaded not guilty and was held on $1,500 bond. The accident occurred on State Route 75 as Schmidt and Eli Palo, Jr. walked to their car after a shift. Foss fled the scene and later abandoned the car after it struck parked vehicles. Speelman, 39, of Haydenville, was with Foss and was arrested at the Larimer farm driveway. The case was investigated by Sheriff Floyd Duffy and prosecutors.

In Jacksonville a 52 year old carpenter Jack Bowers attempted a night depository theft at Barnett Bank. He retrieved cash bags totaling 552.96 and about 900 in checks then discarded the checks in the river. A bystander described him to police and he was arrested in federal court.
