N B Leaman offers a SL acre Clover Virginia tract owned by X B Leaman for public sale on Saturday. The land yields good timber and light colored tobacco selling well. Four tenants farm the site though low yields stem from tenant shifts. Leaman expects Lancaster county farmers to profit from the cheap land. Seaman plans to visit a nearby tobacco market in Boston before returning.
Thomas Moyer died suddenly at age 47 from acute indigestion after arriving at Dr N B Reeser's office in Lititz. He had worked at the chocolate factory and a paper box plant, lived near Speedwell farms, and is survived by his wife Laura and children Clarence Mary John Sadie. Funeral details follow.
Christian Leeking died at his son’s home in Milway early Thursday from a paralytic stroke after a two day illness. He was eighty five. Survived by children Henry and William Lancaster Frank New Jersey Mrs Graybit Reading Christian G Millway Edwin Rothsville Nathan New Haven Conn and Mrs Larry Bringer Reading. A sister Mrs Catherina Kricker St Clair Illinois, twenty three grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren also survive. Funeral from his late home Monday morning with Lutheran Church Rothsville services. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs I Clay Groff of Leola dies Wednesday afternoon from pneumonia aged five years? The obituary notes her as a member of the Leola M K Church. She leaves husband Daisy Groff nee Brown and a son Robert. Survived by brothers and sisters Rey DP Willard Brown Charles J Harry D and Mrs Jere Mumma. Funeral held Saturday morning in Brownstown Cemetery.
Births and aging noted in a Dakota community column. Horace L Eschbach of Davenport North Dakota marked another year on Saturday. Civil War veteran William S Smith turned 81 last Thursday and joined a victory parade march. Grace J Keller, longtime Bell Telephone operator, celebrated her birthday Saturday by working at the switchboard and earning praise for dedication.
Jacob C Miller long prominent Manheim resident died Thursday afternoon at his home aged ninety six. Survived by son Reuben Landisville. daughters Elizabeth Hekardt Manheim and Mrs Philip Hottenstein East Petersburg. ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral Monday with burial Kreider’s Cemetery.
John P F Witman, a prominent resident of Hahnstown, died Thursday from influenza and pneumonia at age 32. A son, Robert Raymond, also died from the disease last week. Survived by his wife, daughter Ellen May at home, father Michael Witman, and brother Henry of Lititz. Funeral held Sunday from his late home. Samuel Rapp sold his home on Spruce street to Daniel Breitigan of Penn township. Breitigan, father of Farmers Usak cashier James Breitigan, plans to move here about April 1. Also, Adam Burkholder sold his Front street home to Hiram Bomberger of Lincoln. Possession will be given next month.
Mrs Nora Brubaker died at her home in Manheim after 25 years of marriage. She was a daughter of Mr and Mrs B R Bucher. She is survived by her husband Levi N Brubaker, her parents, one daughter, and a brother and two sisters Ammon and Lillian at home and Hisse, wife of Clayton K.
Spring Creek was unusually low for months and wells in the area ran dry prompting hauling water for livestock. A Sunday night event brought a rare warm stretch with 66 degrees at 6 PM and a midnight rise of two degrees, marking unusual November weather. Weather notes say rain Sunday and Monday replenished soil moisture aiding winter wheat growth despite overall dryness before.
Joseph W. Baker returned to Lititz after a week in Ohio where he bought a carload of horses and some good mules to be sold Saturday at Leber's sale stable in Ephrata. The Lititz buyer says prices will not drop as war ends, with brisk demand to supply horses for France Belgium and reconstruction work in Germany.
Last week’s Lititz list includes 141 Soldiers and Sailors and 2 Nurses in service. Names show Imhoff, Clyde Nixon, Norman Taberly in France and Martin Muth, Samuel Shenk at State College. Elmer Laberl y should be marked for overseas service. The editor notes difficulty compiling from records and canvassing to separate Lititz natives from surrounding areas.
The new Camp of Sons of Veterans near Lititz was to muster on October 14 but influenza caused a postponement. Muster now scheduled for Monday evening December 2.
Prices in Lititz rose late in the week with eggs and butter near neck and neck, while poultry supplies grow scarce. The report notes a 76 cent price peak never seen before, and farmers blame hens for dropping duties while milk products remain level.
The Venetian Musicviany will perform as the first number of the Lititz High School Alumni Association Star Course in the High School Auditorium on Wednesday evening November 27. Tickets available at Miller Usbecker and Scott's book store with reserved seating charts at Scott's starting Monday November 25.
Officers of the Ideal Chocolate Factory at a Lititz office meeting this week bought improved machinery. Installation will begin soon and the new equipment will double production in installments.

Grant, Miss Helen Albright, Carrie Miller, G. D. Bitzer, John Weaver, Josiah Adams, Roy Weaver, Linnaeus Rhote, Maurice Schreiner, Alis Jacoby, Mrs. Dreifus, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Lenhart, Urias Lenhart, Charles Hornberger, Amos H. Burkholder, and many Burkholder relatives visiting and hosting in Lititz, Reinholds Station, Leola, Petersburg, and nearby locales.
Rolandus Mull of Lat Itz was feeding a threshing machine when a knife in his hand struck the rapidly turning cylinder, severing the tip of his right thumb. He placed the piece back and was taken to Dr. D C Martin for care, with doctors hopeful the thumb can be saved.
John Heisey of Ephraim Myers farm near Lititz suffered a badly lacerated thumb last week when it was caught in tractor machinery.
Bertha Shoemaker and Annie Lesley were struck by an automobile driven by Harry Gochenour of Lexington while returning from Lititz on Tuesday evening. They sustained only bruises and expect to resume work this week. The party was blinded by another car’s headlights. authorities say no negligence was involved.
Government cancelled shell case work at the Robert Berger Special mill, switching to tobacco case production. The mill resumed steady output with eight carloads of timber on hand and sixty workers laid off from shell case work. Demand for tobacco cases is high and prices have nearly tripled as packers place orders months ahead.
Lititz exceeded its quota in earlier drives but fell short of the 4,750 goal in the United War Work campaign. final figures show 4,391.34 subscribed. despite strong house-to-house canvassing and wartime distraction, the effort was considered satisfactory given the period and nationwide celebration.
Warwick Township surpassed its fundraising goal with a total over $2700 on a $1500 quota. Citizens donated willingly to all war relief drives. Chairman J. C. Brubaker praises workers and contributors for the rapid, generous response.
Mrs Richard McCauley of Manheim wore a fur coat crafted from locally gathered hides. Her husband traps in the area and used muskrat skunk and other hides to create the coat. The article notes the coat’s fine appearance and high value at current prices.

Sgt. John Koehler, a 28 year U S Army veteran and native of 121m, came back to his village last week after extensive service worldwide. He recently arrived from Wrance where he stayed a year and four months. One of the first American soldiers deployed to hold a sector in the fighting, he escaped injury. He expects to retire in a few weeks and join his wife and two children in Kansas, whom he hasn’t seen for three years. His wife accompanied him abroad on several assignments. Koehler now desires to stay home with family after a long career.
Lloyd Ritchie recalls in a letter to his mother how he helped seize several machine gun nests during a major 1918 trench attack. He notes two German women dressed as men operated a gun without firing a shot. He mentions meeting Lancaster fellows and awaiting mail, with a brief perk about homebound hopes and parcels.
