Inventor John Madlem Proposes Metal Cigar Mould Strip
John Madlem, former soldier humorist and Central Cigar foreman, has filed a patent for an aluminum end-strap for cigar moulds with slots for the cigar head. The metal strip preserves moulds, avoids water absorption issues, and promises truer cuts, with initial sets built and to be marketed soon. He served overseas and was known for humorous letters in Lancaster papers.

Legion Boys Treated Male Chorus to Fine Set-Out
Lititz Legion post hosted Armistice Day for the local male chorus at its headquarters. A menu featured vegetable soup fried oysters sweet potatoes peas celery buns sugar cake and coffee. Members served as cooks and waiters while the chorus sang several selections. The event was a return of favors from Memorial day cemetery services.

Visitors view two government air ships Shenandoah and Los Angeles
Harry Singer and colleagues toured the Lake Hurst hangar to inspect the dirigibles Shenandoah and Los Angeles. The all steel structure stands over a hundred feet high and six hundred feet long with platforms around the cabins for public viewing. Cabin interiors resemble a Pullman car with a kitchen, 24 berths, dining and operator quarters, all finely finished.

Hand Injured by New Feed Mill Machine
Harry McMullen of Pine Hill had his right hand cut through the flesh up to two inches between the little and ring fingers while using a newly installed feed mill for the first time. Dr. D C Martin treated the wound. Kathryn Gantz of Lititz won second place in County spelling B class with 97 percent on the first list. in the spelloff Donald Kieffer of Lancaster won 100 percent while Kathryn had 96. Miss Gantz is a senior at Lititz High School, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Gantz.

Traps rushed to Los Angeles from Lititz
Traps made at the Lititz trap factory are being rushed to Los Angeles to combat bubonic plague. Los Angeles and the county wage a fierce campaign against rats spreading the disease aided by fleas. Reports place plague evidence in New Orleans and Shamokin among others. The disease often proves fatal when it reaches the lungs.

A health centre for babies will meet in the basement of the fire house building during cold weather at three o'clock on the first and third Wednesday of each month.
American Store Enlarged by Rear Addition
The American store is being enlarged by a rear addition that extends the store room by ten feet and creates a 10 by 14 storehouse. A new floor will be laid to complete the expansion. Additional room was much needed.
Blackbirds Leave Grain Fields for Marshes and South
Many blackbirds linger in grain fields feeding while a larger group migrates to river marshes for rich reed seeds. Others head far south for winter, with a few remaining in town through winter and many starlings staying late.
Storage House to be Connected With Ice Plant Here
A survey this week plans a storage house as an addition to the Lititz ice plant. The 70 by 42 foot structure, over two stories, will be east of the plant to manufacture ice when demand is light and store it for the summer. Natural ice is no longer sold in Lititz.
