Three Lititz men were rescued from a rising river near McCall’s power dam after a boat trip led to getting stranded near a fishway. Scott Martin aided with improvised repairs to reach them before the waters swept them toward Culley’s Falls. The incident underscores rivermen’s skill and quick thinking during flood risk.
The Male Quartet from Olivet U E Church Bethlehem gave a rich musical treat to a large United Evangelical congregation at Trinity U E Church. Singers J C Meyers 67 year old bass Wm Meyers high quality tenor R Hoch leader and Hl Newberger and Newberger sang with ease. Rev Imboden noted five years of service to Olivet congregation.
The Lititz election produced a decisive Republican victory with wide margins. Republicans swept county offices while Coalitionists gained some Lancaster city offices. ward by ward results show Republicans winning key posts such as district attorney and county officials amid arrests in Lancaster and competitive races in Ephrata.
A local show featured ten ear lots with weights of 17 pounds 8 ounces and another ounce lighter. A hunter asked for drop shot, but shop staff noted most use chilled shot. Mrs Mary Foltz Buch of Honolulu writes in the Travelers Gazette about a Molokai trip. The piece opens with departure aboard the Kilauea and fond Aloha Oe farewells as Honolulu recedes. Hunters reported sparse to plentiful rabbits by area with most failures on open ground. Several shoots near Lititz, Neffsville, and Landis Valley yielded multiple rabbits. ringneck pheasants spotted but not always shot. Auto and trolley traffic occasionally disturbed birds while several locals reported legal concerns and plans to report ruses to wardens.
Local readers note gasoline at most curb pumps selling for 21 4 cents a gallon including tax. Question on whether prices will fall to the 12 cent level seen in 1915. Earlier highs were 34 cents in January 1920 and 28 cents for a period after. Refineries predict higher consumption before winter, while motorists expect another drop as car use declines with colder weather.

The American Legion basketball candidates started practice this week with new coach Bill Jones. Kinsley played center, Jones praised the players and noted the team will be speedy. Slank is expected to join soon.
Franklin county reports a bumper apple crop with many wasted fruit rotting under trees as farmers struggle to dispose of surplus. Prices listed at 35 and 40 cents per bushel and potatoes at about a dollar per bushel. Meanwhile Mrs. Eliza A. Sturgis, widow of James O. Sturgis, dies at 86 in Lititz after a stroke, with funeral set at the Moravian church and burial in neighboring cemetery.
A Lititz-based social column lists numerous visits and travels by residents and guests. Frances Flory of Lancaster visits relatives, while L K Grosh and Ella Evans host kin. D A Cohick spends time with family on Spruce Street, and Katie Gochenour, born Lititz native, is noted. Other travelers include Louis Funk of Baltimore, Lloyd Smith and family from Lancaster, Phares Malschnee in Manheim, and readings guests. A Florida winter plan is mentioned for Paul Birkenbine and Luther Neidermeyer. Morris Kauffman and wife return from a ten day trip to Allentown and New Jersey. Lt Percy Dreifus and wife stay at Springs Hotel. she remains ill. Fass brothers and Tead ing’s Strouble family visit Spruce Street. Mrs Agnes Adams hosts guests including Birkenbine sisters, Shire of Manheim, Keihl of Lancaster, and Jacob and Mary Graybill from Lititz.
Mrs M Souders has been very ill for several weeks and is in a critical condition as the newspaper goes to press.
Harry Habecker from Ephrata faced assault and battery charges in a case heard by Squire Schnerer on Saturday and was sent back to court. Paul Zook versus Richard Sturgis ended in dismissal the same day. Four people charged with disorderly conduct by Julius Sturgis in Lancaster faced fines totaling $16. Miriam Sturgis’s assault case against Zook was sent to November term. Zook posts $300 bail. The Lititz High School basketball season begins November 24 at Quarryville. the opener is on the home floor. The high school auditorium screening of The Empty House is tonight.
