A Lititz Odd Fellows Ladies Night is planned for Monday February 6 with a special program. The report also lists local names and notes on community events from Lititz to nearby towns, including school activities, new business openings, and farm demonstrations.
Charles W. Stengel of Lititz was found guilty last week of cruelty to animals and fined 50 dollars with additional costs. Former master of the Abbeyville Riding Academy, he was prosecuted by John Gill over abuse of a horse Gill sold to him. The peace bond case will be heard this Saturday.
Mr. A. M. Kreider, with two daughters in Pasadena, California, received a shipment last week containing a box of very large naval oranges and a box of grape fruit and tangerines. The note mentions the oranges were unusually large, with only ninety six per box, roughly half as many as typical smaller oranges.
The annual smoker held by the Kire Company at headquarters drew 200 firemen. Prominent speeches were delivered by visiting firemen from across the county. Gifts were presented and cigars passed out. A lunch followed as the Fire Company orchestra directed by Mr. Hollinger of Lancaster performed.
County Commissioner G.G. Diehm outlines an $800000 road program to be funded with state and township shares. The plan assigns half state funds, a quarter to townships, and a quarter to the county, with a full county allotment of £490000 and possible increases from unmatched funds. Construction would run from South Spruce Street at Marion to Erb's lime kiln and onto Fruitville Pike to meet the new state road.
Mrs Scott Becker sustained painful injuries from a fall down the cellar stairs at her home in the old Wolfe building on Saturday. She suffered bruises and a head laceration but no bones were broken and she has since been able to walk again after several days in bed.
The Neffsville incident recalls nine youths beaten with a rubber hose by a principal and two Lititz men thrashed with hickory sticks as they headed to the Neffsville school. Witnesses dispute legality while other cases show harsher punishments fading in modern times.
Lititz Alumni and Olivets meet for first time to settle supremacy. The game is here on Saturday with Olivets riding a three year together run. Alumni coached by Vic Warner regarded as one of the best home teams in years. Referee Al Boyer will officiate.
Joseph Dreifus celebrated his 75th birthday with a Saturday party in Washington D C hosted by a nephew and niece. Sixty five guests attended from Baltimore Alexandria and Washington. Dreifus long time Lititz resident expects a future visit. Clement Badort shared the same birthday that day.
A five hour Washington session over James M. Beck residence in the First District of Pennsylvania prompts N. D. Sturgis pretzel remarks. Beck allegedly received letters at his disputed Philadelphia address and ate pretzels there. Beck’s boyhood ties to Lititz and Abraham R. Beck are noted by local residents.
A board struck Arlington Hackman at his East Main Street furniture factory, puncturing the abdomen to the pelvic bone. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Lancaster, where doctors described his condition as good but noted further symptoms could appear.
Twenty seven Lancaster city and county automobile dealers present 180 new models and accessories at the Lancaster Automobile Trades Association show in the Arcade Garage building on North Prince street. The event runs from Tuesday January 31 through Saturday February 4.
Lancaster real estate records show multiple properties sold by Myers and associates over the past two weeks. Deals include a Strasburg bungalow to William Beach in East Petersburg with possession April 1, and a large mansion, mill, and 104 acre Luzerne County tract to J Henry Leonard for 42000. Other transactions feature Dorwart Street fronts in Lancaster to Amos Keenler for 3500, a 70 acre Strasburg area farm to Alden Ponty, and a Philadelphia area estate sale to C G Wongmouth for 23000 with March 1 possession.
Dr and Mrs Richard Bender held open house on East Main Street to honor the golden wedding anniversary of Mrs Wallace Meiskey and Mr Abrah am Meiskey. The event featured many gifts including twenty dollars in gold from the Moravian Sewing Society. The couple, married January 24 fifty years ago, have deep Moravian church ties and grown families in Lititz Shenandoah and Lancaster.
Mr and Mrs John Krombine entertained a large group Sunday including Paul Singer and children Roger James Robert Deborah Cordelia from Manheim Catherine Kissinger and family Harry Myers Lancaster Junction Paul Antes and children Paul Ruth Mary Kissel Hill Engle family and others from Titita Lancaster Elmer Spayd and Virginia Pins Hill Scott's Book Store advertises a complete line of Valentines and materials 2c and 50c a box.
Raymond Newcomer of near utitz leaves for Detroit to attend school. Clarence and Mrs Dillman of Grantville spent Sunday with Lititz relatives. Violet Bisker of Reading and Miss Katie Smith with Mr and Mrs Russel visited Reading. Jacob Heineman attended a veterans banquet in Philadelphia. Emma Grosh and two Nash sisters plus Du Chesnes from Plainfield NJ stayed in Lititz and Millersville. Francis Huber from near Reading visited Lititz. his father John Huber lives near Suffolk VA. C. C. Grira and sister Mrs Leitz near Red Lion hosted relatives. A chicken and duck dinner was served.
Off To Texas Mr and Mrs Kenneth Witmyer left last Friday on a ten days excursion to San Antonio Texas. He served as a clerk in aviation offices during the late World War and wants to see changes since then. They travel via St Louis Missouri and return next Monday. Miss Dorothy Mikseh fills Mrs Witmyer's Moravian Church organist post.
Twenty four tourists left Lancaster in a special Pullman car for a Florida and Cuba trip directed by O H Shenk. The itinerary includes Savannah Jacksonville St Augustine Daytona Palm Beach Miami Titusville St Petersburg Clearwater Atlanta Key West and Havana. Passengers include Mr and Mrs Levi L Landis Levi B Tuber and Gust A Weasel of Neffsville.
Richard Schoenberger a 15 year old of Lancaster who twice escaped Glen Mills Reformatory was captured in Reading on Sunday. He is returned to Glen Mills for questioning in a West Chester auto theft case. He previously lived in Lititz before moving to Lancaster.
Word was received here of Annie M Cohick wife of John E B Cohick dying in Nevada City Missouri on Monday. Burial was held yesterday. She was 71 born Lexington came to Lititz at twelve and later moved west with her husband after years here. They spent decades in western states no return since leaving forty five years ago. Survived by husband two sons sister Mrs Henry Frederick of Nevada City and brother Samuel Steffy of Lititz.
