A fierce sleet and hail storm hit Lititz on Sunday causing hazardous driving with windshields coated in ice. Cars slid on mirror like pavement while trees and wires hung heavy with ice. Two injuries noted from a car crash near St Pauls Lutheran and a shopkeeper hit by a falling paper roll.
Five Company readies a big show for January 25 and 26 with about one hundred dollars in the oyster supper and a $25 donation from Herman Metzler. The financial secretary notes some dues remain unpaid and will be addressed at the next monthly meeting. Delegates report county association work while A K Reist reads Pennsylvania Dutch selections to firemen. The annual smoker is set for January 19 and winter fire drills are scheduled for the first and third Saturdays at 1 PM.
A one and a half mile electric line, connecting with Edison lines, serves G. G. Minnich and several tenants and borough families. Farmers dug post holes and trimmed trees to cut costs. more lines planned to serve Christ Charles Grayhill Newcomer Forney and Shreiber properties. West of Lititz farmers install electric refrigerators as farm life gains access to light and power.
Miss Grace Moyer entertained several friends at a card party and luncheon in honor of Miss Kath lars and Mamie Weand of Reading last week. Guests included Florence Moser Esther Moser Catherine Chubb Firbee Young Mrs. Paul Diener Dorothy Habecker Mrs Frank Longenecker Joe Doster and Vernon Wolfskill. Prizes went to Mrs Doster Florence Moser and Vernon Wolfskill. Favors were shoulder bouquets of sweet peas.
The Lititz All Scholastics open their season Friday at home against Bank Road Club of Soudersburg. Fasnacht elected captain with Hackman Kling Stauffer and Mummert among probable starters. A preliminary fast teams game will precede the main event.
Two hundred forty rabbits were shipped from Norwich Kansas to Lebanon for stocking purposes and will be distributed throughout the county so that next year's hunters will have something to amuse themselves.
Officials of two local banks report 67 000 dollars in Christmas Club checks sent to members after a fifty week period with interest. The Christmas Savings Club grew from 384 000 to 86 000 paid out and includes 600 accounts with a popular 2 dollar per week plan totaling 100 dollars after fifty weeks.
The young daughter of Philip Martin on the E. N. Eby farm near Lititz swallowed a three inch lead pencil while playing. She was taken to a doctor and awaiting developments as doctors monitor the situation.
Eggs fell to 45 cents in local stores from 45 and 58 cents. Chickens appear to recover with better production and young stock starting to lay eggs.
Prof. Herbert TH Beck of Franklin & Marshall College was nominated without opposition to a fourth term as president of the Lancaster County Historical Society, to be elected at the January meeting. Paul B Beck presented a paper on Christopher Myers, Migrant Iron Master and a Founder of Clarion County, read by Prof. Herbert H Beck. A sketch of an airy blast for old forges was also shown. Paul Harold Hardy of Harrisonburg, Virginia, former Lancaster resident, donated a pair of spectacles with a quaint case.

Donations totaling 46 dollars were approved: 25 to Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital, 16 to the Welfare Federation, and 5 plus a box of toys to the Good Shepherd Home in Allentown.
The Wilbur and Suchard alliance creates Wilbur-Suchard Chocolate Company, the fifth largest in the industry. It acquires Brewster Ideal, uniting Wilbur and Suchard brands for U S manufacturing rights and expanding in a United States market with Swiss expertise.
The Warwick House Sale drew steady crowds on Saturday. Apples sold from 94 cents to 1.75 per basket, bananas 70 to 85 cents a bunch, oranges 40 to 42 cents a bag, chickens 1.05 each, potatoes 30 to 95 cents per bushel, pigs 6.75 each, and other items including cigars, shirts, and brooms were offered at various prices.
Harry Adams a worker at Edgar Sturgis pretzel bakery reported missing an exceptional albino deer while hunting in Centre County. He fired three shots at close range but did not wound the white deer, which has eluded hunters for three years with past near misses and a prior wound.
John Zimmerman and his brother Martin, sons of Graybill Zimmerman, were exonerated on the charge of fatally injuring Mrs. Amos Brubaker when struck by an automobile north of Lititz last week. Lititz borough authorities investigated and, from witnesses at the scene, found the Zimmerman boys were not to blame. Mrs. Brubaker, before dying, also said the brothers should not be blamed. No charge was filed.
A Nash touring car struck a light pole 15 inches in diameter on Saturday night, snapping the pole. The car stopped beneath the snapped top of the pole still on the vehicle. Robert Slick and three companions in the caves suffered minor injuries. The car was wrecked with extensive damage and the occupants claim another car forced them off the road.
The case of Charles Stengel manager of the Abbeville Riding Academy was postponed to a later date after defense counsel could not attend. John Gill accused Stengel of threatening him with bodily harm following charges of cruelty to animals.
Mahlon Garman a Lititz real estate dealer shot an eight point buck in Franklin county after firing at five deer with pumpkin bullets. He was accompanied by Nathan Fahnestock Menno Carpenter and John Hershey. Elmer Herr and Harry Snavely also reported big bucks nearby with Herr weighing 146 pounds and Snavely claiming a ten point.
Sunday snow prompted a first wave of shovels as residents braced for winter clearing efforts. Neighbors coordinated across streets to clear driveways and sidewalks, while municipal crews monitored conditions for safety and access.
Spacht and Beck Brothers decorate the fronts of the furniture store buildings with Christmas greens creating a festive storefront display.
Guy Buth shipped bantams including rosecomb white and rosecomb black to Houston and Galveston, Texas. His birds have swept top prizes at the nation’s largest poultry shows, competing successfully against imported bantams.
Mrs. Clara Weaver visited friends in Pottstown while others travelled from Atlantic City Philadelphia Manheim Lancaster Wrightsville and Reading. Milton Hornberger moved into Linville Dellinger’s former South Broad street building to run the general store. Miss Libbie Buch attended a Reading Moravians supper at Malta Temple. Mr Adam Walters and wife stayed in Clay township near Kleinfeltersville and joined Harvey Fetter, remarking on difficult late night drives.
A new Ford car is expected to be on display at Lititz Motor Co on East Main Street at the end of this week or the start of next. The move signals an upcoming model debut for local customers.
Joseph B. Herr was elected Worshipful Master of Manheim Lodge No. 587, Free and Accepted Masons, at the annual election in Manheim Pennsylvania. Frank 8. Gibble Senior Warden Alvin Hartman Junior Warden Dr. Jacob D. Hershey treasurer Monroe M. Pfautz secretary trustees Dr. J. Francis Dunlap Schuyler Hassler and Jesse C. Gingrich representative in the Grand Lodge Horace H. Martin. The installation followed the election.
The Post Office Department urges early mailing for the holidays. Postmaster Paul Seaber lists last mailing dates by state groups from December 14 to December 20, covering western states first and advancing through the Midwest and Northeast.
