Rain Brings Renewed Hope For Local Crops
Heavy rainfall Monday night and Tuesday morning revived crops after a dry spell. Farmers report tobacco especially benefited though crop size remains uncertain if a late fall drought returns. Despite earlier trouble getting crops out, the wet spell improved conditions and raised expectations for the season.

A. J. Shissler of the Springs Hotel represents the Manheim Manufacturing and Belt ing Company in selling 7 percent gold notes. The firm, in business twelve years, has never missed a dividend and is expanding rapidly with backing from Manheim banks. Heroic Policeman Saves Local Girls at Carsonia Park
Beatrice Frederick of Owl Hill and Naomi Weidler near Rothsville escaped a threatening pursuit by three foreigners at Carsonia Park Reading on Sunday. A park policeman, shadowing the men, intervened when the assailants closed in. two sixteen year old girls testified to the incident, and the manager and mother identified them. The men were taken to Reading and nothing further was heard.

Widow of slain sergeant visits with kin from Columbus
The widow of Sergeant Howard Kissinger, killed in an Ohio motorcycle crash in early July, traveled with her five year old daughter to her mother in law Mrs Sabilla Greek. Accompanied by her brother and brother in law from Columbus by auto they camped along the way and later continued to New York. A police dog named Chief rode on the running board. One accompanying man is a soldier and the other a Columbus motorcycle policeman.

Warwick Grange Sets September Exhibit at Lancaster County Fair
Warwick Grange held its monthly session on Monday night. A committee including J. W. Bruckhart, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Miller, and J. G. Haverstick was named to organize the exhibit at the Lancaster County Fair in September. The group also approved a contribution to the electric service commission to lower rural rates. Lectures covered profitability of grain versus dairy farming, with John Balmer, Benjamin Miller, Oscar Diemer, Martin Muth, Stephen Levan, and Lincoln Stauffer concluding grain is more profitable due to labor shortages in dairying. Miller, and a piano solo by Miss Anna Laven. Bell to Replace Wires with Aerial Cable Between Lancaster and Lititz
The Bell Telephone Co of Pennsylvania is removing a mass of wires between Lancaster and Lititz to install an aerial cable of about 300 pairs. Construction under foreman E H Rock progresses to finish the eight mile stretch by late month, with lines owned by Bell and American Tel & Tel. Engineer A A Harrow designed the plan from the Harrisburg office. Old poles are being replaced to ready the line for the new cable, improving appearance and permitting growth.
