Howard Hoover and family plan to move to Lancaster on Tuesday. Alumni spelling bee tickets nearly sold out this evening. Several locals appear in court, hospitals report operations, and business ventures include restaurant rental and a Ford two door sedan purchase. Community events include glee club hosting Rotary, a public fountain install, and local road improvements near Keller mountain.
A quiet primary produced low turnout with 220 total votes in two wards. In ward one County Committee winners were J B Herr 185 Nellie Habecker 20 and William M Pfautz 6 with Grace Keller 6. Ward two saw A M Shissler 44 and B Magdalena Bricker 34. Harry Neidermyer 2. Republican ticket favored Wm W Greist. Presidential race split between Coolidge and Hoover. other offices included State and National races.
The Lititz baseball nine will hold a practice game with Lititz High School on Saturday. A homegrown, strictly amateur club is shaping up with candidates from Lititz and vicinity. Outfield likely Keller Eshleman Stauffer Falk Wentworth. infield from Hoffman Runk Ruhl Kling Carpenter Bloomquist. catcher Witmer Sfackman. pitchers Tromer Hackman Art Hackman Fetter Eberly Falk. They have applied to the Springs Committee for the diamond and expect a contract soon. The club will wear old Lititz suits and aims to be a lively team.
N. S. Myers of Lancaster was jailed on a third charge from Alderman Burhart’s office alleging false pretense. He allegedly posed as an agent for five insurance companies and obtained $50 from C. H. Cowden of Strasburg, later learned not an authorized agent and no insurance on the property. He is already jailed on charges of passing a fraudulent check and failing to pay for a rented car.
Miss Evelyn Sturgis daughter of Mr and Mrs Horace Sturgis graduates from Philadelphia General Hospital last Friday. Attending were Mrs J D Rukert of Lexington Mrs George McCauley and son Richard of Lancaster Mr and Mrs Arthur Campbell of Wrightsville William Sturgis and Mr and Mrs Horace Sturgis of Lititz.
Mrs. Elmer Harding hosted a Sunday birthday dinner in Lititz with guests including Mr. and Mrs. Louis Haines and children, Mr. and Mrs. Addison Harding, Irvin Weaver and son, Gertrude Ditzler, Charles Brown and child, Sadie Meiley and LeRoy Meiley, Leon Meiley, Dorothy Hoover, Elmer Haines of Reading, and Mrs. Samuel Bowers of Aspinwall.
Experts survey show cherry crops reduced by freezing weather and recent snow with spotty damage across orchards. Stayman apples suffered heavy losses, while other varieties remain unevenly affected. some will yield full crops while thinning occurred where damage was sufficient.
The Lititz School Board elected the following teachers for the ensuing year including supervising principal M. C. Demmy and high school principal G. R. Saylor. Vacancies noted in second grade special education art supervisor and high school science. The high school held open halls with displays of art, sewing, cooking and handwork. the Girls Glee Club to give a concert followed by the operetta The Maddie Maids on May 3.
At a Friday evening meeting the Lititz Chamber of Commerce elected nine directors: J. H. Breitigan H. H. Dichm J. W. G. Hershey Harry Wertsch L. N. Moyer filmer Eby Charles Keath Wayne Pahnestock. Several new members were added to the association.
Elwood Shoemaker with four broken bones in the left foot from a falling iron is expected home from Lancaster Hospital this week. An operation was required to set the bones.
Miller, who sustained an eye injury from a wood fragment, has permanently lost sight in that eye. The incident leaves him with lasting vision impairment and raises concerns about safety measures in the area.

A Saturday sale at Warwick House drew a large crowd with goods sold in bulk. Weitems included 150 pigs at 1.80 to 12.36 each, ham 26¢ per lb, bologna 30¢, oranges 45¢ each, bananas 85¢ to 1.30 a bunch, 450 bushels of potatoes 35¢ to 1.25, a sewing machine 7.25, cigars 1 to 1.60 per box, and a gas engine 16.
Willis Longenecker, 18, left Lititz on April 9 and traveled to Corinth Mississippi and back in nine days of return travel totaling fifteen days. He rode in a cattle truck a Stutz and even a tourist bus while seeing Muscle Shoals and chain gangs. He stayed at Y M C A quarters and wore a Lititz Boy Scouts uniform with the knapsack reading Going To Mississippi.
Howard Evans has driven cars for 28 years and ranks among the county’s top three. He recalls early motoring with elbow-length leather gloves goggles an English cap and duster. Gas stations were scarce and running out of fuel meant long hikes, and chauffeurs led horses past wary animals with care.
Two boys aged 9 and 11 took a car from a local shed without permission and drove it in an alley until Policeman Kreider stopped them. They were returned to the owner, lectured, and warned of consequences if repeated. They admitted limited knowledge of gears and kept the car on second gear.
A Lititz Fire Company No. 1 delegation led by Chief Emory P. Wagner attended the Southeastern Penna Firemen's Association meeting in Steelton last Thursday evening and invited the group to hold its next quarterly meeting in Lititz on July 19. The invitation was accepted with enthusiasm, representing six counties: Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, York, Lancaster and Lebanon.
Mrs. Mentzer and her daughter Mary of Wisconsin are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Iva Good in Lititz. The husband remains in southern Texas on an irrigated farm and will join them soon. The daughter, a six year rider, astonishes locals with her skilled horsemanship.
Archie Rosenberg departs to sell leaf tobacco for Walter Bare. He will cover most of the state and reach south to Baltimore traveling by automobile. He knows tobacco from the ground up and plans to promote the product along his route.
Miss Sara Muth landed a 16 inch Histincs ineh brook trout last week. It was a prize many seasoned fishermen had pursued all last season, but the catch went to a first time angler near Lititz.
Larry Bolles writes from the Hawaiian Islands about soldier life including routine at 5:30 AM Reveille, barracks chores, personal care, study, vehicle maintenance, and night problems with mosquitoes. He notes upcoming Army Navy maneuvers and a predicted battle for the island in May and June. He mentions his father Robert Brolles, a former Trap Factory employee.
The regular monthly session with Burgess Norman Badorf and councilmen set the 1928 tax rate at $2.00 per capita for all residents aged 21. The Finance Committee reported a $6,296.22 cash balance and $5 receipts for the month. Several bills were approved, including labor, police services, gas and oil, auto repairs, stone, pipe, and legal work, totaling multiple small payments to named individuals and firms.
The Lititz Fire Company held a successful meeting at the Fire House with a chicken supper and cake walk. The entertainment committee secured many donations including chickens. A large table decorated the first floor while Himmelberger's Orchestra provided music.
Theodore B Bush of Honolulu describes a rough ocean voyage to Hilo with foggy rainy weather and no volcanic activity seen at the volcano. He recalls a chaotic return with dining room mishaps as dishes fell to floors and a near slip in the dining room. He adds an ad for Dennison's Crepe Paper at Scott's Book Store.
A string of social travel items lists Mrs Amanda Pfautz of Ephrata and others visiting Lititz, Coatesville, Reading, Harrisburg, Newark and Utica with relatives and friends. Several Lancaster and Millersburg residents are noted as traveling or hosting.
Senior girls of the high school hosted a leap year party for the senior boys last Friday evening on the second floor of J. Alvin Enck’s garage on North Broad street. Chaperones were Miss Rose, Miss Eddy, Mr. Starr, and Mr. Wertman. Thirty eight persons attended and refreshments were served.
