Community notes report Moravian Ushers Association to hold a meeting this evening at 8 welock with officer elections, music, and social hour. Other items include changes to Sunday School sessions at 9 15 AM and several local updates on residents and businesses.
Whitey Oberc, once a popular catcher from Lititz, begins a third straight season with Springfield in the Eastern League as a premier hitter now outfielder. Eby Miller prepares to start 1924 with Reading, not Frederick, after springing from Portsmouth to the Blue Ridge League. Miller, a top outfielder, seeks a return to the Eastern League via a purchase from Blue Ridge and is linked to Steve Yerkes Harrisburg in the New York Pennsylvania League.
Primary results across Lititz report 343 total votes with 280 in Ward 1 and 63 in Ward 2. Pinchot led in Ward 1 over Strassburger 149 to 77. Griest had 191 and Musser 25 in Ward 1. Diehm totaled 211 Republican and six Prohibition votes. County slate shows Herr 180, Potts 169, Pfautz 15, Keller 18. Ward 2 tallies Strassburger 45, Pinchot 42. Griest 61 and Musser 63 for Congress. Shissler 66, Bricker 66, Neidermyer 2."
Reuben Hunter from Spring City joins Richard Gingrich in Lititz to start a knitting mill business. An alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania 1919 he captained the varsity team as pitcher and first baseman and later worked as athletic instructor. He previously managed semi pro clubs in Philadelphia and led the Doylestown and Spring City team to victories. The Lititz manager seeks him as a pitcher for the local squad.
Thad J. Will of Lincoln Avenue had $110 in cash inside a purse lost last Friday morning. Joshua Rollman found the purse at L N Moyer's Drug Store and, learning the owner, returned it Monday to Will at his workplace. Rollman received a liberal reward and Will says there was no suspicion or misunderstanding attached to anyone.
D G Witmyer is chosen for the third straight year as judge of game bantams at the American Game Bantam Association show in Baltimore. He led six candidates with double the votes of the runner up. The Lititz judge will also oversee the poultry department at the Lancaster fair and plans to judge bantams at Reading and Hanover.
The Lancaster County baseball League opens Saturday with Lititz hosting Denver on the home diamond. Briggs Kingsley will play first base for Lititz and Reuben Hunter, former U P pitcher, will start as pitcher for Lititz. Practice begins immediately and all players are urged to attend Saturday afternoon.
An outlet on school grounds overflowed due to a blocked cesspool. Water was manually pumped, then dynamite was used to clear the outlet, which closed it completely. A new cesspool is being dug beside the old one.
W Burgess Nesbitt president of the Ideal Chocolate Factory published an inspiring article in the April issue of Success Magazine. He visits Lititz when business requires it and the magazine reprinted the piece with authority, noting the town is fortunate to have him closely connected with it.
The article traces W Burgess Nebitt from leaving school at 15 to becoming Seattle Times messenger boy and rising through roles as clerk reporter cartoonist and ad writer. By 21 he moved to New York with $60 and became an ad writer earning $80 weekly. Now he chairs two manufacturing firms and holds multiple officer roles in related companies.

Lititz High with the Hackman brothers in a hard fought game fell to the Lancaster All Scholastics 6 to 4 on Saturday in front of a small crowd. Lancaster scored two runs late aided by Mearig’s error. Lititz High beat Annville 14 to 6 at Annville on Monday after eleven hits including extra base wallops. Front Street boys face warnings over robin shooting with police and borough laws stressing penalties and a teaching lesson.
Paul Volmer of the aviation corps at Mitchell Field accompanied by a Lancaster area relative was taken to Long Island by air. The returning aviator’s plane landed at the County Club grounds near Lancaster where a landing accident forced repairs before continuing.
Menno Burkholder sold his two story brick house at Main and Water streets to F. W. Stengel for Linden Hall Seminary. It will be remodeled as a teachers’ home when not on duty at the Seminary for $7,500. Burkholder paid $8,500 years ago and must vacate by June 1.
The Lititz Fire Company to hold a spelling bee on Thursday May 1 in Lititz High School auditorium. Three spelling classes and one information class with valuable prizes. Program includes recitations violin solos and a playlet The Little Red School House by twenty firemen. Music by the Fire Company orchestra. Bee ends at 8 00 pm. admission 25 cents.
Dr and Mrs George Huber and Dr and Mrs W W Appel hosted a farewell dinner and theatre party for Dr and Mrs Louis B Hepp at the Hotel Lincoln and Fulton Opera House. The Hepps depart this week for their new home in New York City.
Local residents and visitors marked Easter with trips and gatherings from Lititz to Philadelphia. People include Jacob Eberly in Philadelphia, Henry Hackman in Pottstown, Miss Myrtle Eckert’s Philadelphia wedding, and Amanda Landes visiting Millersville. Families from Hershey to Reading shared Easter stays and trips, with Lilitz events at the Brunswick hotel and a baptism at Easter in Gettysburg.
