Paris Soir reports from Nice that two assassination attempts targeted Premier Benito Mussolini. The first occurred April 27 and a second in early May near Piedmont. The second attacker was seized but did not reveal his supporters under pressure, declaring a willingness to die for Italy.
Mrs John Acton and Mrs Paul Scott of St Bernice called on today with Mrs R C Mitchell and Mrs Eskin C Turner, sharing social calls and conversation.
The official thermometer reached 92 degrees Wednesday afternoon marking the season's high. By Thursday at 3:00 pm the reading was 91 degrees as clouds and a southwest breeze cooled the air, with 90 degrees noted at 2:00 pm.
Heavy winds struck Worthington at 1 15 pm from the southwest blowing down several trees and leaving two buildings roofless including the Freeman apartment house. Damage was estimated over 10000 dollars with no private homes reported damaged at press time.

He denied direct or indirect connection with the organizations named. He claimed the Dies committee findings mention many important New York Jews in a serious way.
President Roosevelt commends the navy for rescuing sunken submarine Squalus survivors and credits the crew for overcoming difficult conditions. He says there is no evidence of sabotage at the disaster site and denies such rumors.
Rev. Donald Coakley and Rev. William Dorraugh, former Linton residents, will be ordained Tuesday May 30 by Most Rev. Joseph E. Ritter in a Mass at St Meinrad seminary St Meinrad. Coakley is the son of Mr and Mrs Timothy Coakley of 72% Fourth Street NW. Dorraugh is the son of Henry Dorraugh of 610 H Street NE.
The House Rules Committee granted right of way to the Townsend $200 per month old age pension bill under a gag rule limiting debate to four hours and barring amendments. Democratic leaders aim to force records on fellow congressmen over the bill, which they say has no chance of passage. Also reported: Alfred Sills, 85, of Jasonville, died at his home after four months illness attributed to paralysis. He was born February 25, 1885, and survived by family members in Jasonville and Farmersburg. Funeral services set for Sunday at the Assembly of God church in Jasonville with burial in Lebanon Cemetery. McClanahan Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs Perry Bringman of Bloomfield route 2 was admitted for treatment. A son weighing five pounds one ounce was born to Mrs Leo Knowles of Linton route 2 this morning named Leo George. Mrs Raymond Baker of Koleen was taken to her home this afternoon.
The British minister to Prague, Sir John Simon, announced in the House of Commons that he is being withdrawn as Parliament weighs recognition of Germany's annexation of Czechoslovakia. Chamberlain had said the question was under consideration but would not promise parliamentary consultation. Finland May Fortify Aland Islands amid Soviet objections amid rising official dismay in Helsinki.
FBI agents reentered the Philadelphia murder inquiry seeking a woman suspect linked to the merchants of death syndicate. The case followed an earlier pause after arresting Mrs. Rose Carina, famed as the woman with the kiss of death, and returning Dominick Radio, 51, from Cleveland within 48 hours.
A $20 096 WPA grant approved by President Roosevelt will fund storm sewer construction in Linton. The project covers trunk and lateral sewers, manholes and inlets on northeast streets to relieve flood conditions, with six months of work starting July 1, 1959 and about 59 workers.
King George and Queen Elizabeth arrive in Medicine Hat en route to Calgary as part of their Canada tour. The royal party receives a warm prairie welcome before continuing toward the Rockies. President Roosevelt hopes for a quick U S Canada St Lawrence waterway treaty agreement.
The Lin ton Frank Courtney American Legion post plans a consolidated Memorial Day service at Fairview cemetery next Tuesday starting at 9 00 am. The program features the Linton Stockton high school band directed by Bert J Barnes a Dugger male quartet and speaker Jesse Davis of Newberry The ceremony will last about thirty minutes and include a firing squad salute and a public address system for full attendance. Local Legion members are urged to meet at the post home at 8 00 am to assist with arrangements.
Funeral services for Dr. Ralph Shepherd age 65, former Pleasantville and Freelandville dentist, will be held at 2 30 p m Sunday at the Pleasantville Methodist church with Rev E B Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasantville cemetery.
Harold K. Ferock former manager of the Linton office of the Indiana State Employment Service stopped in Linton last night en route to Chicago, IL.
In Sullivan circuit court the jury returned a not guilty verdict at 2:05 PM in the State of Indiana vs James Batchelor for the January 1933 murder of Mary Ellis of Jasonville after seventeen hours of deliberation. The trial featured arguments over the death penalty and testimony from John Shake, with Judge Martin L. Pigg presiding and defense attorney Norval K. Harris and prosecuting attorney Thomas Gallagher presenting cases.
