The Dies committee planned to send investigators to West Virginia to examine documentary evidence of an international Jewish conspiracy claimed buried by George Deatherage head of the Knights of the White Camellias. He said two tons of such evidence lay in the hills of West Virginia and would allow access for agents. The panel paused for recess and will hear Maj. Gen. George Van Horn Moseley next week.
The Linton Stockton high school Music department presents the talking motion picture Golgotha the life and crucifixion of Christ at 8 00 Tuesday evening May 30 in the high school auditorium. Proceeds cover Music department expenses. The film is billed as the first and greatest talking picture of its kind with a full sound system projector and screen to enhance the school’s venue.
A Japanese navy spokesman announced a virtual blockade of shipping along the China coast citing authority to halt any vessel for inspection. He said Japan’s aim is to enforce demands, not rights, following the boarding of the British liner Ranpura and the French liner Aramis.
Maria Creek Baptist Church near Edwardsport will celebrate its 133rd founding anniversary with an all day program. Rev. J. N. A. Downey of Bloomfield pastors the church, founded May 20 1809, one of Indiana's oldest Baptist churches. The event honors early resolutions on temperance and church discipline and recalls frontier Indian wars era pastor Isaac McCoy traveling by musket to preach. A basket dinner will be served at noon.
Navy faces difficulty determining Squalus sinking cause until raised. Rep Flaherty seeks congressional inquiry as 33 trapped men are rescued and 26 presumed dead. Trial at Sullivan continues with Pearl Miller murder indictment imminent and Batchelor case amid contempt rulings.
Funeral services were held in Bloomfield for David Incis Bland 74 formerly Greene circuit court clerk. He died Tuesday night at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis after a long illness. Born April 16 1865 he lived in Highland township before moving to Bloomfield. Survived by widow Nora J. Bland two daughters Mrs Carl Cravens Martinsville and Mrs Ava Stanfield Attica and son John A. Bland Danville. He served as clerk from 1923 to 1927.
Pupils and patrons of the South Linton school will attend an all day picnic tomorrow at the Russell Pope farm. Buses will depart the school at 9:00 Friday morning for the farm event. All patrons and pupils are urged to attend.
Late wire reports say the totalitarian powers will suitably answer the new encirclement drive led by Great Britain France and Soviet Russia. In Washington Senator Lafollette urged passage of a bill to curb anti democratic methods by a powerful minority of industrialists. The proposal would ban industrial espionage bar strike breaking agencies restrict armed guards and prohibit industrial munitions in employer hands.
The foreign office instructed Ambassador Sir William Leeds in Moscow to inform the Soviet government of Britain’s new proposals for a three power mutual aid pact with France and Russia to complete the European security pact. Foreign Secretary Viscount Halifax dispatched the message to outline the plan and indicate the lines of a detailed formula to be sent once a draft is finished, likely within a day or two.
Julian Duncan underwent a major operation Wednesday night. Miss Wilma Hamilton of Bloomfield route 1 was taken to her home this morning. Miss Rose Harper was taken to her home in Hobbieville this morning.
An interdenominational Daily Vacation Bible school will open at 9:00 next Wednesday in Linton First Christian church, running May 31 to June 16 five days a week. Rev. Harry J. Bailey is principal, with cooperation from local pastors. About 150 children aged four to 14 are invited to enroll.
President Anastasio Somoza of Nicaragua drove an automobile at 90 miles an hour around the Indianapolis Speedway today en route to Purdue University and the west coast. He was greeted by Gov. Townsend, Mayor Sullivan, and about 50 civic leaders. He traveled with his wife and Nicaraguan officials.
