A girl named Marilyn Kay was born to Mrs. Gladys Townsend of Newberry Friday. Judy Ann was born to Mrs. Roy Harris of Linton Saturday. Mrs. Robert Pryor of Worthington gave birth to a boy Sunday.
Greene and neighboring counties drew bids for state highway projects. Keith-Riley submitted a $209,969 bid for 15.31 miles of state road 67 widening in Greene county while Mc Calman proposed $134,568 for 11.99 miles of road 67 in Knox county. Neu mann of Chicago bid $13,855 to paint five highway bridges across Greene Orange Daviess and Martin counties.
A thief or thieves entered the Elbo Room tavern by bending a ventilating fan and crawled through a vent to steal 318 dollars hidden behind merchandise cases. The burglar also took some wine and beer before exiting west door. The theft occurred after closing Saturday night and before 8 pm Sunday. police continue investigation.
The 160.00 raised by tag day is recorded as added to the Cancer Control Fund here Saturday evening. Linton Girl Scouts reported final totals with prizes awarded to Myra Cooper Madeline Hazelrigg and Shelly Clark for selling the most tags.
Eunice Marie Bennett Rains 26 of Pontiac Mich died 7 40 am Saturday at her parents home West Linton after four months illness She lived in Linton most of life except two years in Pontiac She was born Oct 4 1921 and was 26 years seven months four days She leaves husband Samuel L Rains and two children Patricia Ann and Ralph William Bennett Funeral at Assembly of God West Linton Tuesday at 2 pm with Rev Fletcher Duncan burial in Marco Cemetery.
The Greene County Women's Democrat club will hold a covered dish luncheon at noon Wednesday at the headquarters. Members and friends are invited to attend and bring a covered dish.
Mrs. Marie Phillips of Dugger has been admitted to the Mary Sherman hospital at Sullivan for treatment.
Fort Wayne man Carmin David Moretti was shot by Clarence Cochran e in Indianapolis after being found peering into the bedroom of Cochran e's daughters. Moretti died from a gunshot wound to the mouth. Police will review Moretti s background for possible sex crimes and fingerprint records.
The Greene circuit court opened its May term at Bloomfield courthouse with three divorces granted and a scheduled partition suit for June 28. Five marriage licenses were issued over the weekend.

The Wiley track team of Terre Haute scored 7344 points to win the Western Indiana Conference meet at Oliphant Field. Brazil, Berstmeyer, Garfield, Sullivan and Linton followed with second through fifth places. eight new records were set, led by Branson of Wiley with double wins in the 100 and 220 yard dashes.
W A Foust aged 67 a retired farmer and former Carlisle resident died in his sleep at the Travelers hotel Terre Haute from a heart attack. He had lived in Terre Haute about six months and belonged to I O O F and Masonic lodges there. He is survived by six brothers Fred of Paxton Charley Lonzo Hosea W B and Burle Foust of Carlisle. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Tuesday at Newkirk Funeral home Pleasantville then at the brother Fred Fousts home in Paxton with burial in Snyder cemetery.
All Triad members are asked to gather at the local public library at 6:30 this evening for a business meeting. The gathering will be the final session until fall.
In Bloomfield and through Greene county meetings the Democratic and Republican parties chose their central committee officers for 1948. Elected were Bloomfield Democrat chairman John A. Watkins and Republican chairman Frank A. Lenning, with local officers named for vice chairman secretary and treasurer. All contests were by acclamation. Separately President Truman seized the nations railroads and urged workers to stay on duty as unions weighed a potential nationwide strike.
Robert Gallion age 82, a retired coal miner, died at 5 30 Sunday morning at his Jasonville home after four years of illness. He spent most of his life in Jasonville and belonged to the Baptist church and Jasonville lodge. Survived by four daughters Beulah Hannah Orpha Wesnidge Ruby Hall Dorothy Ferry and three sons Hiram Ray Gallion Estel Gallion. Funeral at Mathers Funeral Home with Rev Takker officiating burial in Lebanon Cemetery.
Pistol Pete a coon hound owned by Ray Graves of Linton and entered by Banks Witts and Sefton won second honors in a Clinton field trial Sunday. The dog defeated Miss Rattler of Lafayette and two field trial dogs from Brownfield Kennels Chicago. Other local dogs were entered in the Clinton competition.
