Miss Emil Joan Sargent daughter of Mr and Mrs James Sargent of Linton died at 8 30 this morning in Putnam county hospital Greencastle. The second victim of an accident last Saturday near Greencastle the crash left her with two broken legs a fractured pelvic bone and severe internal injuries. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and death was attributed to peritonitis from the injuries. She was 32 years 10 months 8 days old. Survived by parents two brothers Ray and Arthur Sargent and two sisters Mrs May Richardson and Mrs Jeanette Allsman. Body brought to Welch and Cornett funeral home Linton with funeral arrangements to be announced.
Local Illinois Central agents announce schedule changes affecting Linton arrivals for morning and afternoon trains. Morning arrival shifts from 8 36 to 8 06. Afternoon down train now at 6 43 instead of 4 55. Train 334 from Effingham reaches Indianapolis by 11 00. Train 338 from Indianapolis reaches Effingham by 9 20 pm. Post office mail handling may adjust with earlier morning delivery but no office hours change expected.
Death notice lists survivors including sisters Mrs Ida Wall and Mrs Cris Roeder of Linton and half sisters Mrs Mary McCullough of Terre Haute and Mrs Ona Scott of Dugger and half-brother George Wall Schwart of Linton. The article notes names were unintentionally omitted.
Roy Combs of Worthington underwent a minor operation and was later discharged home. Mrs John Oniones and baby were released to their residence Thursday afternoon. Mrs Floyd Headley was moved to her home this morning.
Arrangements are under way for the Linton Frank Courtney American Legion post Roll Call gathering, the biggest meeting of the year. H. L. Plum mer will deliver the principal address with Elmer Sherwood accompanying him. The event begins at 8 p.m. and will feature music by the Recreation orchestra. Local ex service men urged to attend alongside district and department officers expected to be present.
Linton-Stockton high school band under Bert J. Barnes to give its first concert of the season at 8 o'clock Monday in the local school auditorium. The program serves as a pre contest with two upcoming competitions at Bloomington on April 1 and Martinsville on April 22. Forty four members will compete in Martinsville. proceeds fund travel expenses. Tickets available from band members. Soloists will be featured in the solo divisions.
The remains of Harry Victor Elliott killed May 6 1938 in St. Louis will be brought to Linton for interment in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery. Born January 2 1902 in Albion HL he lived in Linton before moving with his mother Mrs Cora B Elliott. He leaves a son Charles Max 15 and his mother. Interment is set for 2 p m Saturday at Fairview Cemetery with burial at the family plot after services at M J Aikin & Son Funeral Home.
A neighbor named Arlie Richardson near the Sullivan Greene county line east of Dusger saw his home burn at 8 o clock Thursday morning while he helped fight a grass fire. He and other family members were away. the house was destroyed despite neighbor efforts to save furnishings. Insurance partly covered the loss.
Byron Barrowclough, owner of 17 houses in Dayville, Connecticut, bought a second-hand chemical truck to protect his properties. He offered to teach others to operate it, sparking talk of forming a volunteer fire company.
Former Indiana governor Paul V. McNutt is invited to address the Young Democratic clubs convention in Pittsburgh August 10 to 12. Indiana Democrats plan to boost his 1940 presidential bid with about 2,000 expected attendees.

The senate appropriations committee reported a war department bill of 513 188 882 dollars to fund immediate expansion of the army air corps to 6 000 planes. Senate committee added 15 330 946 dollars to the house approved total of 499 857 956 dollars with 94 737 281 dollars for accelerating the air corps program.

Ezekial Fields of Midland sues Henry A. Seandrett Walter J. Cummings and George J. Haight trustees of the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific railroad alleging a caboose struck him as he walked along the right of way near Midland on May 7 1938. He seeks 3000 in damages claiming no warning lights or signal and that the right of way has long served as a public footpath. Fields says he was hospitalized two weeks and unable to work until July 1 1938.
Eleven defendants including former Kokomo mayor Olin R Holt pleaded not guilty in federal court to conspiring to defraud the government by WPA abuses. Judge Baltzell set trials for May and all are free on $5 000 bond.
Marvin Friedman son of Mr and Mrs Max Friedman and a Butler University student in Indianapolis is reported recovering today from a serious attack of appendicitis at his home in Linton He returned from classes at the university on Tuesday.
London and Paris weigh an immediate conference with Russia and Poland to form a four power anti aggression bloc reinforced by a military agreement. Poland might decline participation delaying a united front declaration. Hull condemns German moves and calls them violations of international law.

Firemen responded to a grass blaze at 1 am at the John Winters residence in the east part of Linton City. The flames spread over a large ground area and were brought under control after several minutes of efforts with little reported damage.
