Mrs. Caroline Baker age 87 died at 9 10 p m Wednesday at the home of Mr and Mrs Levi Boruff five and one half miles southeast of Lyons. She born June 4 1851 in Sullivan county was the widow of Rev William Baker former pastor of Linton First Baptist Church. Survived by a niece Miss Verna Squires of Linton and three nephews Henry Wallace Terre Haute Ben Squires Linton Rural Route and William Grant Jasonville and by the nieces Mr and Mrs Levi Boruff. Funeral at Welch and Cornett chapel Linton at 2 p m Friday burial Claybourne cemetery northwest of Dugger.
The condition of Mrs. Pieus Matthews of Indianapolis daughter of Mr and Mrs Forest Gilbert of 609 A street northeast who underwent a major operation at St Vincent's Hospital is reported satisfactory. Mrs Gilbert returned home this morning after visiting her daughter in Indianapolis.
A Daily Citizen survey of East West and Northwest Linton residents shows broad opposition to plans to incorporate West Linton South Linton and Northwest Linton into Linton city. Critics question gains from incorporation, citing existing benefits, higher taxes, and fear of loss of local control.
Mrs. Nellie Frances Robinson 74 longtime resident of the community died at 2 30 in her West Linton home after months of illness. She was born in Kentucky in 1864 married Silas Robinson in 1888 and moved to Linton in 1899. Survived by husband, four children Vernon Henry Criss Creel, eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Burial in Fairfield cemetery officiated by Elder Walter Jones of Indianapolis. Funeral arranged by M J Aikin and Son.
Local youths raid a new water tank in northwest Linton spurring warnings from Dr. E. V. Bull that climbing the tank is trespass and could incur hospital or jail time. Authorities bolted 10 foot boards to deter climbers, but the issue persists.

Joe Gardner aged 83 or 84, longtime Lyons resident and former watchman near Broad Street and the Pennsylvania line, died yesterday at his son Henry’s home in Indianapolis after a yearslong illness. He moved to Indianapolis twelve years ago to live with Henry. survived by Henry and two daughters. Body to return to Lyons Friday. funeral Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Prairie Chapel cemetery. Youthful drivers race Main Street A Street and Vincennes Street at forty to sixty five mph prompting a police warning. Officers said measures would be taken against violators and urged bicycle riders to use lights after dark to avoid citations.
In Sullivan Indiana jurors in the state case against Walter Cooprider deliberated from Wednesday afternoon seeking a verdict on manslaughter in the death of Trace O Mahan. The trial began Tuesday with defense witness Cooprider admitting conflicting statements while denying insanity or self defense. Cooprider’s daughter testified about her father’s mental state as observed in Detroit.
