In Greene County 4-H members plan their annual Achievement Day program in Bloomfield on Monday marking the culmination of Week. County members aim for a two year goal of 1000 members by 1950 showing far sighted planning.
Oscar Turpin age 66 former Marco resident died at 6 30 Tuesday evening at his Bedford home. He moved to Bedford about twenty years ago and was a retired stone quarry worker. Survived by four sons Oscar Jr Ray Turpin Indianapolis Fred Turpin Chicago and Ralph Turpin Hanover three daughters Geneal Silvers Bedford Lucille Haskett Lawrenceburg and Ellarene Connersville three brothers Horace Marco Norris Palestine Ill and Charles Fort Wayne and two sisters Alice Wines and Laura Frederick Marco. Funeral at 10 Friday morning at Day and Carter Funeral home with burial in Bedford cemetery. Body moved from funeral home to family residence south of Bedford.
Mt. Vernon Illinois dairyman E. J. Stone claims a Duroc sow produced a record 22 piglets in one litter. The farmer notes the count as a notable feat within the breed and plans to verify the record with breed associations.
Czechoslovak Ambassador Juraj Slavik resigned in Washington saying he will fight in exile for democracy. The Czech minister to Canada also resigns in Ottawa. Slavik, his wife and 18 year old son left the embassy after a 10 minute press conference attended by U S Secret Service. He accused the new regime of turning Czechoslovakia into a totalitarian police state under a political minority. He stressed his family has no plans or funds, only hope, and will relocate to a hotel while moving vans took residence furniture to storage.
Linton's switchboard gains capacity as Indiana Bell reports an average of 9,400 daily calls, about 50 percent above two years ago. An extra operator position brings on 10 operators now, with another project underway to reach 11 by April. Linton totals 1,930 telephones, double prewar levels.

A marriage license has been issued to Ancil A. Carter of Paragon and Mary Theresa Bass of Beech Grove.
A storm that buried the Midwest in snow swelled east into the north Atlantic states. Snow totals topped 13 inches in Rockford Illinois and seven inches in Chicago with other eastern area amounts. Flooding near Freeport Illinois closed roads and forced evacuations as Pecatonica River rose again. Emergency depots and coal supplies were organized while northern Illinois rural schools closed. Army engineers warned of high flood danger potential.
Funeral services for Ellen Sheffler of Sullivan route 5 will be held at 2 PM Thursday from the family home with Brother Maurice Clymore officiating. Burial follows in Fairview Cemetery, Linton. Newkirk Funeral Home of Pleasantville in charge.

Fire at Do-All Cabinet Shop in Brazil caused 10 to 15 thousand dollars in damage to the shop and nearby buildings.
More than 50 legal medical and social experts met in Indianapolis to coordinate legislation and methods to fight sex crimes. Attorney General Cleon H. Foust led the meeting with Health Commissioner Dr Leroy Burney presiding and Frank E. Coughlin directing the legal discussion.

Sen joseph h ball planned to introduce the proposal during ERP debate proposing a veto proof supreme council outside the united nations to use force against aggression and subversion in western europe. other developments include talks on universal military training and tax, steel price and minimum wage discussions.
John and Clara Taylor of state road 54 west of Switz City are jailed in Greene County on charges of soliciting funds by trick. Police say they told Switz City residents their father in law had died and needed money for a funeral and flowers. Taylor carried eight letters to matrimonial agencies seeking marriage.
A boy was shorn last night to Mrs. Charles Earl of Linton. Miss Nancy Hostetter of Bloomfield underwent major surgery today. Mrs. Max Cravens was dismissed today. Mrs. Emma Ecker was taken to her home here today.
Washington March 3 U P top administration spokesmen told Congress that Greece and Turkey must receive further U S assistance to stay free. Secretary Marshall and Defense Secretary Forrestal asked for an additional 275 million military appropriation and warned the communists were intensifying pressure on Turkey. Greece also needs more than the 300 million already allocated to beat back guerrilla forces. Forrestal said the United States alone can help them preserve their freedom.
The American committee of atomic scientists led by Albert Einstein condemned the House Un American Activities report attacking Dr. Edward Condon, director of the Bureau of Standards, saying it harms U.S. interests. Signatories included Einstein and Harold C. Urey of Chicago.
Radioman Murl W Brush of Jasonville Route 2 attached to the Jasper state police post is at Indianapolis headquarters this week for a refresher training course. Col Robert Rossow says the program aims to improve service to Hoosier citizens as part of a long range plan. A commanding officers school has already been completed and more sessions on specialized topics will follow.
Leon Perry of Linton was fined one dollar and costs and given a six month stipended sentence in Mayor Arthur M. Grass court for public intoxication. He was arrested last night by Linton police.
Goshen Indiana observes a Greek native Pete Vlassis who became a naturalized American citizen and organized a town round up. He hosted a banquet for 140 overseas veterans, expressing gratitude.
In Bloomington two buses incidents injure ten people. A Greyhound rammed a parked truck on Indiana 37 near Bloomington. Leo Teflinger and Mrs. Paul Kays were seriously hurt and transported to a hospital.
Senate President Arthur H. Vandenberg said he would accept the Republican presidential nomination if offered by the 1948 convention. He previously denied being a candidate but noted possible consideration if drafted. At 64 this month, he questioned his age as a hurdle and discussed the idea only privately as Eisenhower’s boom rose.
