Solsberry edged Linton 61 56 to claim the I H S A A sectional title, the school’s first ever. Jenkins led the winners with key baskets and rebounds while Woolsey starred for Linton in a season finale.
Mr and Mrs George Wall announce the birth of an eight pound one ounce son at Freeman Greene County hospital at 5 30 Sunday morning February 29 The baby is named Robert Evans Mrs Wall formerly Miss Rosalie Francis daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Francis and Mr Wall is the son of Mr and Mrs George Wall
The Switz City schools release the fourth grading period honor roll. Names span grades two through twelve with multiple students listed per grade. Attendance percentages accompany each grade, ranging from 91.0 to 98.045 percent.
Miss Eunice Due 55 lifelong Westphalia resident died Sunday night at Freeman Greene county hospital after a week’s stay. Born July 10 1892 she was daughter of Lewis and Martha Due and last surviving of eight siblings. Funeral services at Westphalia Evangelical and Reformed Church with Rev John Overbeck. Burial in Westphalia Cemetery.
The County Recorder reports numerous property transfers filed last week. Transfers include multiple parcels in Highland Washington and Center townships plus Jasonville and Bloomfield areas among buyers and sellers such as Owen Smith Vandeventer Duncan Collings and Ledgerwood and others.
Mrs. Evelyn Ellis, 28, was decapitated today in her home with a hatchet. Fred Ellis, 44, a taxi driver and former husband, is held after admitting the slaying and a prior suicide attempt at a psychopathic clinic on February 25.
Thomas Melvin Mundell 75 a retired railroad machinist of Worthington was found dead near the Big Four depot with death estimated at 6 pm Sunday from a heart attack. He lived alone in a Worthington trailer and is survived by two daughters. Funeral arrangements set for Myers Funeral Home and Mundell Christian Church with burial in Mundell Cemetery.
The Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue will open offices from 8 09 a m to 5 p m for all future weeks with standard hours. The office will be closed on holidays and Sundays and will observe a break on March 10.

Robert Evan born to Mrs. George Wall Sunday, 8 pounds 1 ounce. Baby girl 9 pounds born by Ceasarian to Mrs. Wayne Howard Sandborn Sunday. Bennie Joe Waggoner Midland admitted today. Myrtle DeMoss Linton major surgery today. Weekend dismissals: Mrs. Raymond Straw and baby Sandborn.
Charles Spencer Knoy a 57 year old coal miner and truck driver of Switz City died from a self inflicted gunshot wound Saturday at his home. A .22 caliber rifle was used and he died in the rear seat of his automobile in the garage. He was born January 19 1891 and had lived in Switz City 25 years. Survivors include Nellie B Hold wife two children and siblings. Funeral services set for Tuesday at Switz City Baptist church with burial in Switz City cemetery and Masonic graveside rites.
The Indiana Equipment company was awarded a contract to supply a road maintainer for Greene County Highway Department at the March meeting of the county Board of Commissioners in the courthouse. Other business included reading the county home superintendent report and approving claims against the county treasury.
Washington March 1 John L Lewis may indicate today whether he will call a soft coal strike to win miners pensions. Operators already brace for crisis as letters threaten termination of current contract March 30 if pension terms are not settled. Government officials signal use of Taft Hartley emergency provisions to delay or halt a walkout.
Thomas Vern Griffin of Ypsilanti Michigan lost a 1946 car and paid 20.80 in fines after his southbound vehicle on state road 67 in Switz City crashed into a railroad flasher. The fire burned fuel, he faced a speeding charge, the auto valued at 1600, flasher damage about 500, no insurance.
Washington reports the Senate judiciary committee approved a bill to admit 100000 displaced persons. The move aims to ease postwar refugee flow and stabilize international aid policy.
Elizabeth Nettie Gorsage 80 of Linton died in her home on H street northeast at 8 30 Sunday morning from a heart ailment. She moved to Linton in 1930 from Washington Indiana and was a member of the Linton Methodist church. She is survived by a daughter, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The body will lie in state at M J Aikin and Son Funeral Home and burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery Washington Tuesday afternoon.
Indiana State Board of Health reports five leading causes of death in 1947 include heart disease cancer cerebral hemorrhage automobile accidents and nephritis. Cardiovascular renal diseases rose to 48.9 percent of deaths, while tuberculosis deaths fell from 40.2 to 27.8 per 1 000.
Mrs. Lillian Friedman received word Saturday of the death of her brother in law Herman Gould at his Chicago home. Funeral services were held there. Mrs. Gould is a sister of Mrs. Friedman and has visited in Linton several times.
Miss Estelle Phillips reports the Gregne county sectional basketball tourney yielded 3769 dollars and 80 cents last weekend. The funds will be divided among the participating schools.
On March 1 the British government accused the Jewish agency for Palestine of indirect responsibility for recent bloodshed in Palestine. A long statement cited a breach of relations after 28 British soldiers were killed and 33 wounded when the Cairo Hadra Express was blown up.
Cliff Strong Motors has been appointed Greene county's Studebaker dealer. An open house plans to show new car and truck models on Tuesday and Wednesday at the A street northeast showroom. Cliff Strong operates in Linton since 1929 with Ray Nalker in parts and mechanics Wilford Headly Norval Wonders and Alfred McBride. The repair and service departments will continue in operation.
In Bloomfield the Greene circuit court granted a divorce to Richard T. Jones from Alice F. Jones. Della Butler versus Ralph Butler was continued generally. State of Indiana versus Paul Lynn was continued. John Eccles versus Roy Orman had a hearing. The cash balance in the county’s coffers totals 206.96 dollars.
