Chicago February 27 UPS Government agents moved to avert two major strikes that could cut meat supplies and cripple railroads. A three man fact finding board appointed by President Truman investigates issues between unions and 132 class 1 rail roads with a potential April 10 strike deadline.
Robert Pearson, father in law of Walter Weisser, was cleared of charges that he killed Weisser in a Tuesday night scuffle at Pearson’s home. Deputy Coroner ruled Weisser’s death accidental after Weisser tripped during the altercation.
The army announced mass dismissals at the St. Louis administration center amid alleged subversive activity. Twelve employees were fired and 26 cases referred to the FBI, with claims of communist infiltration and records destruction of suspected communists and fellow travelers from World War II.
A Greene county statement on the fifteenth annual Easter seal sale notes the nationwide drive runs Feb 28 to March 28 and supports medical care camps bedside teaching and vocational guidance for crippled children. Indiana residents number over 13 thousand affected.

Indiana Supreme Court refused a fresh hearing for Illinois Central Railroad seeking to end passenger trains on its Indianapolis Effingham line. The ruling keeps the Greene circuit court decision requiring at least two daily trains, upholding PSC restoration order. The line serves Sullivan Dugger Linton Switz City Bloomfield Solsberry and Bloomington.

Four cars of the Silver Meteor derailed today in downtown Raleigh as the Seaboard Air Line Railway streamliner traveled from Florida to New York. No passengers were reported injured, and three coaches plus a diner left the track while the rest of the train diverted onto a nearby Norfolk Southern line.
