Mine Run and Safety Notes Appear in 1921 Elks Program

RCA Workers Idle As Break Off Talks Stall

INDIANAPOLIS UP I The two week old strike by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers against RCA continues after talks were broken off Friday. About 22000 workers are idle at Indiana plants in the strike against Radio Corporation of America plants in nine cities. RCA bagainers reached a tentative agreement at Camden New Jersey with the International Union of Electrical Workers affecting about 22000 employees.

Explosion at VC Plant Near Jasonville Injures One

An explosion at the VC chemical plant east of Jasonville around 2:20 PM injures at least one man. Mrs. Harold Stalcup, who lives nearby, reported hearing subsequent explosions and seeing smoke from her home half a mile away at 2:45 PM. Emergency crews including Greene County units responded.

Viet Cong Attack On U.S. Tank Force In Vietnam

About 600 Viet Cong attacked the headquarters of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment near Saigon. The base fought back with tank guns and air support, leaving 45 Americans dead and 31 injured while Viet Cong deaths rose to at least 335. In the Mekong Delta, a U.S. patrol engaged a sizeable Viet Cong force, four helicopters were shot down, and U.S. infantry drove the attackers back by dawn.

Evansville Man Charged With Murder of Child

Evansville resident Joseph William Kunz 28 faces first degree murder charges in the death of Tonja Marie Perisho 4. Prosecutors say Kunz brought the girl to meet his fiancée’s mother, and officers found the nude body in the back seat of his car after locating him in a shopping center. Kunz had been released May 18 from a federal penitentiary for forgery.

Escapee Captured Near Worthington

Greene County deputies arrested Jackie Wayne Miller 19 an escapee from Indiana State Farm Putnamville on state road 157 north of Worthington He approached David Walters 19 and Sue Thomas 17 while they worked on a car near Hymera then asked for a ride to Worthington A road block stopped the vehicle and Miller surrendered without a fight He was returned to the state farm the same day.

Bloomfield Man Dies in Wreck

James Leslie Dobson Jr of Bloomfield was killed in a one vehicle crash on highway 67 south of Freedom in Owen County. The car spun out of control, rolled twice, and Dobson was ejected. He was born July 10 1932 in Wapato Washington. He managed a Bloomfield grocery, belonged to several groups, and was a Korean War veteran. Survived by wife Donna, two daughters Kathy and Linca, two sisters Roma and Lila. Funeral at Jenkins Funeral Home Bloomfield Tuesday at 2 pm with Rev. Davidson officiating. interment Grandview Cemetery.

Southern Indiana Group to Inspect Reservoir Project

A Southern Indiana, Inc meeting at Boomfield on June 2 features an 11 am director’s session and noon luncheon. An auto tour led by Clinton Green will visit the Richland Creek Reservoir site in northeastern Greene County, touted as a 5000 acre flood control and recreation project supported by the Flood Control Commission and under consideration by the U S Army Corps of Engineers.

Former Jasonville Women Die In Auto Crash Near Shelbyville

Two former Jasonville residents, Mrs. Virginia A. Williams, 28, and her niece Miss Willetta Caddell, 17, died when their car left an embankment two miles north of Shelbyville Saturday night. Double funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at McClanahan Funeral Home, Jasonville, with burial in Peavey Cemetery.

In a Wednesday meeting the Joint Planning Group of Good Samaritan hospital approved final seven story plans for a new facility. Plans move to Chicago and Washington for approval before bids are advertised locally.

Detroit Police Strike Sparks Picketing by Officers' Families

Wives and children of about 300 Detroit policemen picketed police headquarters demanding higher pay. The action followed a three day sick call strike that ended after a court injunction and Mayor Cavanagh warned of jail for noncompliant officers. The city suspended 190 officers involved.
