U S Senator Frederick Van Nuys warned Indiana’s Democratic two percent club that they could face a Senate election probe over funds in the 1938 campaign. He said a clean elections committee, appointed by Vice President Garner, would handle any inquiry and rejected gainsay of his independent re election bid. He announced a coalition of eleven Democratic senators would travel to Indiana to support his campaign, calling them independent allies.
City Clerk-Treasurer P. H. O'Hern announced Eskel Beasley county auditor delivered Linton's 1938 June tax distribution totaling 5954.33. Allocation includes library fund 1150.95 city park fund 821.84 Lin-Stock park fund 380.68 general fund 2573.11 retirement of bonds 186.60 and bond interest 841.06.
Army engineers began tearing down all but two former CCC camp buildings at the city golf course. The kitchen and mess hall remain, to be turned over to the city park board, while WPA sewing project uses the others. Protests by local groups had preceded the order.
Betty Thomas seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Clyde Thomas of near Sandborn died at home from tetanus after a foot scratch. Funeral services were held in Sandborn with burial in the Sandborn cemetery. Surviving are her parents two grandmothers a half brother a brother and three sisters.
In Stockton township enrollments climb in 4-H club projects with Miss Thelma Powell reporting higher participation across several clubs. The list of first year groups includes Willing Hands Merry Makers and Little Maids with officers for each role.
Salinas California boasts a small grass patch on Main street centered around the base of a large iron stop button. The tiny plot, a few inches square, survives thanks to its protection from passing cars.
Marion Williams of Stafford township was re elected as Greene county attendance officer for 1938 59 by a 10 to 9 vote of the Greene county Board of Education meeting in Bloomfield. He faced Republican challenger Balis Burcham of Bloomfield, a Indiana University graduate, and had served as attendance officer the prior year.
United States Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy left Southampton on the Queen Mary refusing to comment on a possible 1940 presidential bid or on reports his London mission may be done. He said he would return to attend his son's Harvard graduation, while trade agreement obstacles loom.
Newark June 15 Mayor Frank Hague told federal court he would refuse John L. Lewis a permit to speak in Jersey City saying it would endanger his life. He said granting such a permit would depend on the pulse of the people and under current circumstances it would be dangerous for Lewis.
P. H. Brace of Westinghouse labs in Pittsburgh developed Cupaloy, an almost pure copper alloy rivaling steel in strength. In tests at 20,000 pounds pressure, two bars—hot rolled structural steel and Cupaloy—showed Cupaloy indenting the steel, proving its high strength.
Frank Courtney American Legion post secures Continental Company rides and shows for a five day carnival at Lin-Stock Park to raise mortgage funds for the Legion home. Legion members will oversee crowds and parking. final plans discussed at Thursday meeting, including district meeting in Washington and support for John A. Watkins as Indiana State Legion commander.
The Twin Safety chapter meets at 7 PM in Red Men hall to discuss the chapter's role in Linton's Fourth of July celebration. Reports on accidents and safety discussions are planned, and safety awards will be presented. Members are urged to attend and visitors are welcome.
Township trustees and city and town officials in Greene County receive spring tax distribution payments totaling 118 641 80. County auditor Eske Beasley announced checks are ready and will be collected by taxing units, with state and county distributions pushing the total to 335 985 11. Payments are listed by township and city amounts.
Residents of Linton and surrounding area are invited to a community sing Monday night June 20 at the Nola D. Yoder community house. Bert Brown and his recreation orchestra sponsor the event with a 7 30 p m start and plans to serve up to 1 000 attendees. The program features popular numbers old tunes and hymns with song lyrics printed for attendees and amplified sound.
Mrs Helen Moehlman was taken to her home this morning. Miss Viola Bredeweg was dismissed this morning. Max Kidd nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Max Kidd of Bicknell underwent a tonsillectomy today. Mrs Violet Garstte of Solsberry underwent a major operation this morning.

Police investigate a Stanford store burglary at Austin Martindale on Sanford Street. A bag with about 25 bills and silver was stolen after entry through a side door. A fingerprint expert searched the scene but no arrests yet.
