Also referenced are moving and hauling services by W. H. Wakefield Transfer and Johnson Tire Service offerings including tire repair and retreading. A birth notice reports Judge J. Raymond Powell and wife welcoming a son at Greene County hospital who are both said to be doing well.
Uncle John Tanner of Depoy Kentucky age 98 visits his 78 year old brother Dick in Linton. He jokes about living to 100 and beyond as his son Bud accompanies him. The pair, known locally, recall longevity questions and his steady, plain life on a Bluegrass farm. Mr. Tanner hopes to return in 1939 to mark the century mark.
Mrs. Lucritia Carrithers died at 10:45 this morning at her home west of Pleasantville after a two week illness. She is survived by husband Sylvester two sons Lawson Smith of Carlisle R. R. and Lacey Smith of Paxton R. R. one daughter Nora Adams of Paxton R. R. one sister Bell Shake of Sullivan five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services are set for 2:30 Tuesday at Bethany church with Rev. Michael officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Newkirk Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
George D. Clayton 79 farmer north of Linton died of a heart attack Sunday night. Born October 7, 1857 in Linton, he married Julia Stahl in 1883 and survived by his wife, seven sons Ora Jerry James Elmer Roy Francis Ollie, three daughters Elsworth Alma Rose, a brother L E Clayton, twenty five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at the family home Tuesday afternoon led by Reverends Simpson and Foster with burial in the family cemetery on the Clayton farm.
Nationalist troops smashed through Bilbao defenses and eyed the city with jubilant confidence. Basque loyalist resistance appeared shattered as the advance continued along the eastern front, with Gen Fidel Davila pushing to secure hills surrounding the city before final assault.
Seventy five Greene county scouts and leaders attended a Flag Day rally at the Linton Scout camp two miles northeast of Linton. Troops 62 Worthington 64 Bloomfield 55 and 57 Linton competed in contests, cooked meals, and held a court of honor led by Harry F. Dowell. Troop 55 of Linton won the Elks trophy for most points.
Women of Lawrence and adjoining counties will attend a Field Day event at the Moses Fill annex farm near Bedford on June 17. Purdue extension experts Miss Blanche Zaring and Lella R. Gaddis will demonstrate home furniture arrangement and discuss dollar stretchers after lunch. Governor Townsend in Indianapolis cites risks of commuting a death sentence, arguing it could invite further crimes and endanger his family.
Linton Elks led a Flag Day observance at the George Rogers Clark Memorial near the Indiana Illinois bridge. Their Boy Scouts assisted under Addison Stewart as Lodge members from Linton Vincennes Bicknell Washington and Sullivan participated with Elks and guests from across the region.
Mr and Mrs John Talbott were spotted in Greencastle visiting friends and enjoying local sights during a weekend trip.

In a tight Greene County WPA league contest Lyons defeated Switz City 1-0. Frye allowed two hits for Lyons while Haldeman limited Lyons to three singles. An error in the ninth inning on Justus' throw opened the door for Edwards to score.
Amelia Earhart, the American aviatrix, departed Massawa on the Red Sea coast for Asia today. She aimed for Karachi traveling along the Arabian coast between the desert and the sea.
The Senate appropriations committee voted unanimous approval for a 1.5 billion relief bill. It includes a 40 percent local contribution clause and extends the Public Works Administration for two years. An amendment by Senator Carl Hayden allows use of the PWA RFC revolving fund.
President Roosevelt nominated Louis A. Johnson of West Virginia, former national American Legion commander, to be assistant secretary of war until June 30, 1929. The proposed amendment would grant about 300 million dollars to the PWA to continue its program. The Byrnes 40 per cent amendment requires local sponsors of WPA work relief to cover 40 per cent of project costs unless they submit a pauper oath allowing the President to lift the restriction.
About 13 000 employees at Delco Remy and Guide Lamp returned to work under watchful company police after yesterday's shooting incident that left nine men wounded. Officials did not reveal force sizes but increased presence to prevent violence between U A W and company unions.
