The Linton state champion Elks degree team will travel to Indianapolis to initiate Mayor John W. Kern into Lodge No. 13. Milo B. Mitchell of Linton, newly elected president of the Indiana lodge association, will assist. Mitchell was also elevated to president of the Indiana lodge association at the Logansport convention.
County Agent notes hog prices stayed higher than several years ago but high feed costs caused poor feeding ratios and losses on hogs marketed recently. The corn hog ratio fell from 1 9 to 1 7 as corn prices rose, with long term norms suggesting 11.5 bushels of corn per 100 pounds of pork for break even profits. A normal 1937 grain crop could boost hog profits. Indiana hogs have historically provided about 30 percent of farm income.

Everett Davis aged 40 of Terre Haute and former Linton resident died at Evansville from illness complications. Survived by wife Esther and daughters Sandra Sue and Leah Rae of Terre Haute, five brothers James Charles Ben Harry and Dan. Body to be returned to Clayton funeral home in Linton with arrangements to be announced Thursday.
The state Alcoholic Beverages Commission announced June 1 total excise funds for school units at 17223 dollars. Greene county schools received 1956.35 dollars while civil units had 1602.73 dollars earlier, totaling 3559.08 dollars. The common school fund pays 27.35 cents per pupil for average daily attendance of 651,638.
William Thornton Brown, 14, a Findlay junior high freshman, began his own bakery business after his grandmother urged him to sell his cakes. He bakes on Thursdays and sells Friday, turning his hobby into a market success and paying for a new suit and shoes.
Funeral services for Jean Harlow were held at Forest Lawn in Hollywood with about two hundred stars and over a thousand fans attending. Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald performed songs, as the platinum blonde star lay in a gardenia adorned coffin. The service ran 23 minutes and was followed by a Christian Science reading.
George Everett 19 of Valley Park Missouri was fishing at the Meramec river when a catfish dislodged a hook from its mouth. The hook flew up and gashed his nose in the surface encounter. Everett suffered a facial injury but remained alert and was treated locally.
