The House appropriations committee reduced the Atomic Energy Commission budget by 48.15 million dollars while warning that further cuts could be catastrophic. It set 12 month funding at 501.85 million to cover nuclear work and ordered preserved military research. The panel also approved 400 million in contracts to expand fissionable materials production as part of a five year program.
Indiana report from Indianapolis on June 8 states Thomas E. Bath withdraws from the governor race and renominating bid for secretary of state. Bath will back Leroy Yoder for auditor and supports Fred Ferrini for secretary of state and Dale Brown for state treasurer.
In Linton court of Mayor Arthur M. Grass Dave Goodman was fined 1 dollar and costs for assault and battery with a 90 day suspended sentence. Charles Brosche also faced a 1 dollar fine and costs with a 90 day suspended sentence for public intoxication. The affidavit was signed by Lucille Keller.
Funeral services for Emer Roscoe Booker 73, who died at his daughter Marie Beck's home south of Linton, will be at 2 PM Wednesday at Stafford church with Rev. Harry Karns officiating. Burial follows at Bethany Cemetery near Paxton. The body moves from Newkirk Funeral Home to Mrs. Beck's residence this afternoon.

Wallace’s third party faces Ohio ballot dispute. In New Mexico primaries decide national and state posts, while Iowa yields upsets as Beardsley tops Blue and H. R. Gross defeats Gwynne.
Miss Estelle Phillips announced at Linton-Stockton High School that students with receipts for the 1948 annuals must pick them up by Friday morning in Room 277. Anyone who has not reserved one may purchase an annual Friday afternoon at the high school.
A meeting of the Linton Retail Merchants Association is set for 5 15 p m Wednesday at the Linton public library. Officials say important business items will be discussed during the session.

Greene county Highway department workers received pay raises at a June county Board meeting in Bloomfield. Hourly employees gain ten cents retroactive to May 23. monthly staff receive a ten dollar month raise, excluding the County Highway superintendent. Other actions included approving county claims and nurse and asylum reports.
Miss Maude Harris of Linton was admitted for treatment Tuesday afternoon. A baby boy weighing 6 pounds 8 ounces was born to Wanda Narrow of Switz City on Tuesday. Leon and Bessie Cole of Linton had tonsillectomies this morning. Robert Lemmonds of Linton had minor surgery today. Mrs. Kenneth Ockerman of Bloomfield was admitted for minor surgery today. Bonnie Roberts of Bloomfield had a tonsil operation this morning. Kenneth Frye of Bloomfield had a tonsillectomy for Mrs. Pansy Griffith. baby and mother taken home in Lewis. Lorenzo Powell of Linton rural route was released today. Mrs. Dallas Hulen and baby taken home to Bicknell. Mary and Robert Steed of Lewis were taken home today. John Hasler of Bloomfield released.
Adri an Parks, 25, is charged with abducting Hallie Goodpasture, 25, at gunpoint in Orleans Indiana. Police issued a state wide alert. Parks, once in the Army, was described as armed with a German Mauser and a .22 rifle and had threatened Mrs. Goodpasture weeks earlier.

The Hiawatha club meeting scheduled for June 10 is postponed to June 24 according to an announcement by club president Mrs. Hulda Buckner.
Edith Mae Waggoner nine year old daughter of Manley E and Mattie Lou Waggoner of Sandborn died in Riley hospital Indianapolis at 11 PM Tuesday from poliomyelitis. Born July 25 1938 Knox county she was 9 years 11 months and 17 days old. Survived by parents four sisters and two sets of grandparents. Funeral private Thursday at 2 PM at Poindexter and Wampler Sandborn with Rev Odus Mitchell and Rev L H Graham officiating. Burial in Sandborn cemetery.
Terre Haute Indiana June 8 search for the bodies of Ora C Davis 25 and Maurice Sherer 40 two Terre Haute packinghouse employees who disappeared during a fishing trip at Morey’s Lake near Cloverland. Their overturned boat was found near a dam and their car remained at the shore.
New officers of the Linton Fraternal Order of Eagles were installed after services at the local lodge. Installing officers included past worthy president Mirl Tincher worthy president John Wright worthy vice president John R Peoples and treasurer George Stafford along with trustees conductors chaplain and guards.
Washington report shows soft coal operators seek more time to answer John L Lewis on welfare and pension demands. Lewis agrees to a 24 hour postponement as talks resume tomorrow, with the June 30 contract expiry near.
The Salvation Army will host children from daily vacation Bible school at Humphreys Park starting at 11 o clock. Contests games and stunts are planned and children should bring sandwiches while the Army provides other refreshments. Parents are invited.

Mrs. Roy Henshaw of Monticello, formerly Miss Helen Duncan of Linton, was surprised with a banquet and gifts by the Mills Brothers circus staff after an afternoon show in Linton. The event included a tribute tune "Belle of Linton" and a remembrance service for her late parents Edward and Lulu Duncan, with the couple buried in a local cemetery.
A tornado and violent winds swept the midwest injuring and killing residents. Gayle Mullin, 10, died near Henryville Indiana when a tornado destroyed her farm home. Joseph Ciaramita, 32, of South Beloit Illinois, was killed by a falling tree in Clinton Wisconsin.
