Funeral arrangements are set for Pfe Roy Johnson 32 of two miles south of Pleasantville killed in action in November 1943. The body with military escort will reach Linton Friday afternoon and proceed to Newkirk Funeral home Pleasantville. Services are at Indiana Prairie church Saturday at 2 PM with Sullivan American Legion honors. Johnson enlisted January 10 1941 went overseas November 1942. He is survived by widow Elmina Kardocus Johnson of Sandborn route one son Roy Jr father William Johnson Evansville brothers Er Evansville sisters Mrs Margaret Anderson Indianapolis and Mrs Nathlea Meschner Evansville.

In Columbus Indiana Robert E Barnaby hosted a dog birthday party for Peggy Barnaby the first birthday anniversary. Attendees included Irish Setters Fox Terriers Wire-Haired Terriers and a Great Dane on leashes. A hamburger cake with a candle was served and dogs received beef bones gifts wrapped with ribbons. A Cocker Spaniel named Dusty Rogers attacked Danny Morehead an Irish Setter until a garden hose spray ended the incident.

American official Harry L. Franklin freed by Russians in Berlin
Dr. Harry L. Franklin, 53, political official of the American military government, was released by Soviet authorities in Berlin after more than 16 hours as a prisoner. He entered the Soviet sector of Berlin and was detained near Alexander Plaza, then handed over to U S authorities at midday. Franklin, deputy chief of AMG civil administration and political affairs, had been with the military government since December 1945 and was a Berlin kommandatura representative. He appeared tired and dirty but not mistreated during the release.
