Memorial day observances drew visitors from many areas to Linton and Greene county. The American Legion auxiliary led a highly successful Poppy Day sale while the Frank Courtney Legion post firing squad toured cemeteries. Crowds also flocked to Indianapolis for the 500 mile race where Wilbur Shaw won in record time. Shakamak lake opened its swimming season with large weekend crowds.

Railroad Worker Ellis Johnson Killed Near Riverside
The dismembered body of Ellis R. Johnson of Rockford Illinois was found on a Chicago Milwaukee St Paul track near Riverside south of Lyons. He belonged to the Riverside work gang and likely died after being struck by a train late Saturday night. Coroners from Greene and Daviess counties investigated and the body was taken to an Elnora undertaking parlor. a wallet with identification and money was missing.
